Just got back from the doctor a bit ago. I have what is called Supraventricular Irritability. What is happenining is that my natural pacemaker is not in its right spot like a normal persons is. Its in a higher spot in my heart. Causing the funny feelings I am getting now. A cardiologist recommended I be put on a beta blocker so I am on Lopressor now. Which when I first picked it up and read the pamphlet that came with it it scared me. Cause it said do not take if you have mental/mood disorders. So I waited to discuss it with my doctor today. He said I need to be on this. The most its going to is maybe cause some depression if it does. And that can be handled. There are only two medications he would want me on for my heart this one and another one I cant remember. The rest become more poisonous to the body as far as side effects and stuff. And with other problems I have he doesnt want me on them.

He is also ordering up an Echocardiogram that I am having done tomorrow at 11:00 am and a heart blood workup too that I have to fast for 12 hrs for. So far I dont have to be on any diet . There is no diet for this pacemaker disfunction stuff. But if something else comes back it could be a different story. I dont eat bad stuff. I eat lots of veggies, chicken, wheat pasta, fruit good things like that but then I also eat my Healthy Choice Rocky Road Ice cream too lol and chocolate lol. Guess we'll see what I will have to give up . Please keep me in your thoughts if you will. Thanks so much.

Bethy~

Sounds like you got a good comprehensive explanation of what's wrong with you! That's always good to be able to understand it all. I was on a beta blocker for awhile, can't remember what it was called. The main thing I ran into was when I was sick, I couldn't take any decongestants. Nothing that might speed up the heart rate, like Sudafed. I think anything with ephedrine. But as long as I wasn't sick, it wasn't an issue. I didn't notice any other side effects, but I also am not a good example, as I was drinking heavily at the time that I was on the beta blocker. Anyway...some advie before your blood work, even though you're fasting, drink plenty of water!! Helps with the hunger, and helps us find your veins. =) Take care and keep us posted!

It seems you have a good doctor that is thorough and is willing to explain things to you. Also, work through your concerns...that's good.

Keep us posted how the other test goes.

Gotta have ice cream in the diet!!! Hope the meds help, and that you don't have a problem with any more depression.

Hi Tryin2bme
(All joking aside because I am sure you aren't in the mood for jokes about this) Good news is that Supraventricular Irritability isn't life threatening. I am glad to hear that.(assuming that the diagnosis is correct). S.I. is very treatable and you would be suprised at how many things can cause this. Let us know what they find with the ECG. I wish you the best and I as so glad that it wasn't what I was thinking it was. Good luck my friend.

Had my ECG done today. The technician wasnt allowed to say one way or another how things looked. And the results wont be back till around Wednesday. I feel like I am on pins and needles here waiting now. I just hope and pray that everything is ok. Please continue to keep me in your thoughts and prayers ... I would really appreciate it!

Evabeth~ I cant imagine it either without ICE CREAM!!!!! And I even try to eat the Healthy Choice kind! I was trying to be a good girl! lol Thanks for your reply I love my doctor. Ever since my mom died he has really tried his best to look out for me . Kinda like a big brother does ya know?

Ray Ray~ Yeah it went ok... I hate needles though!!!!! Especially getting stuck in the hand. It hurts really bad there on me !Guess I am extra sensitive there! lol

Sky~ I hope so too. Scarey stuff

Brian~I dont mind being lighthearted or joking at all Brian! Sometimes thats how I handle things best during times like these! So bring on the humor if you want to ok? I found out that the actual name is Supraventricular Tachycardia. Maybe its the same thing not sure. Probably is. And yeah from what I understand it could be worse if it was in the atrium of the heart ~ thats where it could be deadly. It just kinda throws you when you hear something is wrong with your heart ya know? What were you thinking it was? Thanks for the encouragement! It all helps!

I'm not really posting tonight, but wanted to share my thoughts for you. It's a great feeling to know whats going on. I know it can be a little (or alot) freaky until one has a definitive diagnosis for something.

I started Atenolol every day about two weeks ago. I took propranolol only when I needed it before that. Since I started taking Adderall back in November, my heart got alot more sensitive. It was before, but the problems increased. I don't have a real diagnosis yet. But then, I have also been shy to really talk about it with my doctor. I hadn't said all the symptoms that might develop if I have a problem, depending on severity. I am sure that because of how much I didn't say, my doctor very likely assumed that my problems would be more benign and not cause for more serious concern. I emailed him after my last visit when I got the prescription for the Atenolol. I made a post here after seeing him about *how sweet* he was and how he really sat-down to talk with me--about ME. I feel better about him since that day. I have felt more like trying--or thinking/realizing more that I need to.

I am rambling now. Sorry. Had a bad day at work today. Oh, and then atenolol helps me. I still have some minor problems, and it seems to wear off at come evening. He said that I could adjust the dose, so I may do that. Anyway, glad to hear you've got something to help you!

I am glad to hear that you are able to joke around Tryin2bme, and I love to hear that your spirits are high.

Let us know the results of your ECG, and maybe I can help you with what you may not understand. I am not saying that I can for sure, I am saying that I hope that I can. I have been studying this for the past 6 years, and I have learned a lot.

I was wondering if they have done any tests as far a neuropathy goes?(That usually consists of a 'Tilt Table test' or a 'Postural Hypotension test') As to your question.....I was hoping that it didn't have anything to do with the Autonomic nervous system.
I will keep you in my prayers and I hope that things work out for the better for you.

Brian~

First of all Please just call me Beth or Bethy ok? Hehehe

I will keep ya'll updated on what goes on with the test results dont worry your purty little faces bout that! Got my heart diagnosis and explanation hehehe. You've got me curious though now Brian . What are you studying to be? I've always had a curiosity about the medical field myself . Wanted to be a nurse but wtih the abuse I went thru never thought I was smart enough to do it and now with my depression , bipolar crap and all that .. its too much to handle right now. Annnnnnnnnywhooooo lol.

They havent done any of the tests you mentioned that I know of. Just the EKG, ECG, Heart Monitor, And heart blood workup. And the doc put me on Lopressor for the SVT. I do have High blood pressure and am on Diovan HCT for that also for the past 7 years. What does all this have to do with the nervous system? If you want to pm me feel free to do so. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers ... they are always welcome!

The nervous system, (especially the autonomic nervous system) control in-voluntary motor functions like your liver, lungs, intestines, and most especially in your case, the heart. Good luck to you my friend.

Hand sticks tend to hurt more on everyone. I hate having to stick the hand, but I guess it's better then gettings stuck a million times. Ouuuuuuch. We stuck each other in class when I was training, and I always hated the hand sticks.

Got up to go to T today and had alot of dizziness after taking the Lopressor today. Also this afternoon I was taking a nap and hubby woke me up and I felt dioriented . not sure if that is normal or not. I know its just going to take some adjustment to the med but I am just not used to feeling this stuff and it upsets me.

Adjusting to stuff is hard, just take it day by day, and know that when you adjust, it'll be over and you'll feel better!

I hear ya Beth. I swear that I have read about this somewhere. I will look back into some of my stuff(all the paperwork that I have accumulated over the years...lol) and see if I can find something that might help.
So, have you gotten any results back yet? How are you doing with every day things?
I hope that things start looking up for you soon Beth.

Brian.

Thanks Ray Ray and Brian. Brian no I havent gotten my results back yet. Probably around Wednesday they said. It takes about 5 days for the cardiologist to read it here I guess. The medicine seems to be calming my heart down I think. But it is making me dizzy. But I was already dizzy from what people tell me lol. We wont go there though ok? lol. I also get tired from it too. I just think its going to take time to adjust is all. I am anxious to get the results back though. I want to get them and find out what is going on so I can start living my life like I am supposed to again or how I need to . I want to be informed if there is anything going on with me. I WANT I WANT I WANT! LOL.I just want to understand . Right now , I am going thru the why me stage of this whole thing. Thats pretty much what I talked about in therapy today. Which according to my therapist its understandable and right where I should be. SO I guess I am normal in a way huh? Who woulda thunk? LOL. Thanks for the concern ! I appreciate it! Your kindnesses are much appreciated too!

Hi Beth. It is alarming that you posted that they are trying to get your heart rate down. What do they have you taking? Is it Lopressor or something like that?

If you promise to let us know what the results of your tests are I will promise to keep you in my prayers. Deal?

((((Beth))))

My heart was feeling like it was racing and now with the medication~ Lopressor~ it feels more calmed down thats basically all I was trying to say.

I found out just a bit ago that my overall cholesterol averaged out great! Its at 157 average! I am very happy with that! And so is my doctor. The only number that was a bit high is the Triglyceride at 181. So I will have to work on that. But in all honesty. I do eat good things . lots of fruit and veggies, minimal beef and pork , lots of chicken , whole wheat pasta and other product and bread when I eat bread. Now I should get the results of the Echo tomorrow or Thursday hopefully. And will let you all know what is up with that then. Thanks for your concern and well wishes again. I so appreciate it. Thanks so much . Love you all!

Not too much longer to wait. I really have to think that if you had anything life-or-death emergency that SOMEONE would have called you by now. Got my heart diagnosis and explanation

I had total cholesterol at 116 but the HDL is only 9... and they say for women, a low healthy cholesterol puts us at risk more than a high LDL.

Sounds to me like just finding out will lower your heartrate! Anxiety puts us on pins and needles! Got my heart diagnosis and explanation

Well Talked to the nurse at my doctors office today. My ECG didnt turn out .So now I have to go in on the 30th and have a Transesophogeal Cardiogram done. Where they put you to sleep and go thru your throat and esophogous to look at your heart. I am not thrilled. They dont put you thoroughly asleep like they do for surgery though so that is good. I am glad for that. I am just scared is all. But I guess that is normal. Well I wanted to keep ya'll informed so there ya are! Your informed lol!

I am so sorry you are going through this. I am glad your medicine is making your heart feel better. I wish you didn't have to have that test, but they give you enough meds that you don't even know it's happening. You won't remember it. The hardest part is waiting for them to call you to go back to the procedure room. Honest.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hugs,

Jan
