I have noticed (or rather been bothered by) a change in myself recently. I keep having to go to the toilet in the middle of the night, at least 3 or 4 times and I'm constantly exhausted. I've also noticed that I'm really itchy with no rash or explanation.
I was aware of the toilet thing being a symptom of diabetes, but it was only when I did a quick search that I realised itching was also a symptom of Type 1 diabetes. I didn't even think you could get symptoms so quickly, I thought it was a more gradual thing. I'm a bit nervous about this. I'm currently on medication for anxiety and depression (my anti depressants have recently been changed). I'm a bit reluctant to find out as the reality of having Type 1 diabetes scares me. I have a massive phobia of needles and don't cope well with change. Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated. edit: on reading a bit about it I also saw another symptom of injuries not healing as quick... which is also apparent.

It sounds like you could have type 2 diabetes. (Not type 1 - in order to have that you would have to have been diabetic since birth.) Lots of things can cause frequent urination and dry, itchy skin, including reactions to some anti-depressants.
I suggest you check the side-effects of your new anti-depressant. Sometimes these side-effects will clear up on their own. Being tested for diabetes is quick and easy, and you should be tested to address your health fears. Type 2 diabetes, if caught early, can be treated with medications that don't require injections. For those with more advanced cases, there are new devices that make testing and injection much, much easier. Most of the changes to treat type 2 diabetes are in the form of diet and exercise and weight loss. I have been pre-diabetic my entire life and still do not have diabetes and I am 54 years old. Get yourself checked; you'll be glad you did. All the best to you! |

1. It is probably the med.
2. Go get checked. 3. If you don't want a doctor, some drugstores sell blood glucose test kits. You should measure your glucose before breakfast and then I don't remember if it was 3 hours after a meal. The test costs around 40 dollars. Also, both type 1 and 2 can cause frequent thirst and urination. Type 1 doesn't even have to be from childhood, my cousin got it at 30 and someone i used to know got it at 16 (a medication triggered hers). |

A simple blood test can tell you if you are diabetic.
Itching has many causes, from external to internal. Have you changed laundry soaps or personal soaps lately? Have you started a new medication lately - itching is a common and temporary response to new medications. Also, if your sleep is being interrupted for other reasons, you may need the toilet because you've been awakened - like we do first thing in the morning when our sleep hasn't been interrupted. Just a couple of things to think about. |

I think you mean type II diabetes? If you had type I diabetes, your symptoms would likely be more severe.
Anyway, testing for diabetes is really simple. Just go to a doctor, and they will check your fasting glucose and H1AC.

I had some of these symptoms with high aldosterone levels in my blood. they have to actually check for that, I guess.
they say it could be a tumor on my adrenals or pituatary. it's not my adrenals as I had a CT. My mom has hypoglycemia too. That causes tiredness. Perhaps it's the antidepressant though. |

Perhaps you need to stop worrying yourself sick (procrastinating) and get yourself to the doctor. I am a fellow procrastinator too.
![]() Take the fasting glucose test and ask the doc to do a HB1ac blood test. Then you can rule it in or out. The tests are not hard. Just by doing something will ease your mind and your can take it from there. When I start to diddle around something it makes life harder. Just do it hun....... ![]() |

the only true way to know is go to the dr and have them do an a1c test. that will tell what your counts have been the last 4 months.
