Hi, just wondering if any ladies here suffer from PMDD. I don't know if I do or not, because it's not like I have major mood swings every single month. This past month has been pure hell though, for about the past 2 weeks I have felt depressed, and every little thing has been bothering me. I also was having a hard time sleeping, or staying asleep, and this only added to my feeling out of sorts. The other day I had so much anger that I felt I couldn't control it, and I just isolated myself and took a valium to calm down.

My question is, when you have PMDD is it consistent every single month? Or does it alternate, or even skip a few months? Normally I feel a little down and out before my period, but this month was so bad I actually considered checking myself in to the hospital. I rode it out though, and yesterday I started my period. It's like a black cloud has been lifted off of me. I feel like myself again, but I am dreading next month because I'm afraid of feeling like this again. Like I said, it doesn't happen to this extreme every month. Oh well, if anyone has any experience with this disorder I'd love your input!

By the way, I do have a few issues going on that have been bothering me, and I have been diagnosed with "situational depression" in the past, so maybe these things have contributed. Thanks!

Sujin

YES..... I have PMDD - that is actually what brought me to PC about seven months ago.... I was looking for some support during those lows in which I wanted to take my own life for one week every month.

To answer some of your question:

1.) when you have PMDD is it consistent every single month?
> > > > > NO, with the help of Celexa I have been given some months of FREEDOM.

2.) does it alternate, or even skip a few months?
> > > > YES, there are some months that I am as normal as I was before I got my first period and then there are other months that I am highly irritable, don't like people or just want to scream.... the death wish months are far and few in between with the help of my mood swing / anxiety medicine.

........... and I too have depression and it does indeed make the PMDD even worse.

Please feel FREE to ask ME any more questions or concerns YOU may have.... for I have been dealing with PMDD for many years now.
BTW - know that PMDD will usually only get worse over time without the help of some hormone / mood swing medicine, please do not suffer unnecessarily when there is medical help available.

Thank you, Rhapsody! I really appreciate your response. I will talk to my doctor when I go in a couple of weeks. I haven't felt that depressed in a couple of years, and then when it hit me it really scared me! Thanks again, and thanks for the link too. Take care!

Hi Rhapsody,

I remember you telling me about the dark chocolate, and it really does work! It should be interesting to hear what the new candy bar is all about, too. I wonder what the difference is? PMDD?

Boy do I ever suffer from PMDD (for years). I have the horriable mood swings every month 2 weeks before my period. Some months worse that others, but I haven't skipped any months.
One thing that has helped SO MUCH is that I take Sarafem just 2 weeks before my period, and nothing once my period starts. It had keep me sane all year! PMDD? But the chocolate bar sounds like it could help too, it certainly can't hurt (except my waistline) LOL

Yeah.... I use to take Sarafem and it worked good - but I had to go off it after my insurance stopped covering it.
NOW - I am on Celexa (20 mg per day) and it has proven to be even better for me - w00t w00t.

.............. Good Luck
