Howdy.

I've been having problems for a while, with bowel movements, bloatedness, gassed up 'n noplace to go, as well as constipation. Not very nice! I do exercise, albeit sporadically, but that's because of the problems I'm having! I am drinking as much as I can, and eating fiber and stuff. I think I'm just not getting enough of whatever the hell I need. I've just discovered fiber supplements, and it appears as though I need more insoluble fiber, because it doesn't need digesting and can act as a natural laxative. So, I'm just looking for some advice, some experience perhaps, in taking these things. I'm fully aware that I need to see the doctor, by the way; I'm getting an appointment later today, but I wanted to get in some other opinions and experiences.

'n yeh, I was torn as to whether to put this in the health forum or here, but I went for here, as it's more general than anything.

Cheers!

^ Something I think might help me.

Mother and sister have IBS, and my dad seems to have GERD. >.< I'm skwewd!

Have you tried taking something like Lactaid with each meal to see if you have an enzyme/Lactose sensitivity to dairy? Lots of manufactured/made products and medicines contain "milk solids" and other stuff that you might not have the enzyme to break it down. Even Synthroid, which I was prescribed for my thyroid condition has lactose as an inactive ingredient (helps hold pills together or adds bulk, etc.).

...and I did, having not long come back. xD I'm getting a blood test tomorrow, and I have fibre drinks for now, as prescribed by my GP. I won't bother with those other things, as these drinks seem to be working - already.

Sounds good, but doesn't that give diarrhea as apposed to constipation and bloated/gassy feelings? Hopefully something like that will show up in my blood test. Thanks.

It doesn't show up in blood tests, it's just a digestive enzyme, and no, no diarrhea for me, bloated/gassy pain. It's a cheap over the counter box of stuff (in the "beano" aisle, I'd try them too maybe if I were you, they're not just for "beans"). I drink the Lactaid milk too in my coffee, cereal, etc.

Kewl. Either way, the doctor seemed all-go for a blood test, so... will do that. xD I'll ask about that lactaid milk when I next see my GP. Cheers. I imagine they wanna see if anything else will crop up, since she did say that IBS is diagnosed based on symptoms, or something along those lines.

Hello Akuma... Sorry to say this, I strictly opposed to take any kind of supplements until and unless there is a necessity.
Can't we provide the same things by natural foods, what exactly we are gaining from supplements.
May be you are consuming less amount of fibers as per your body needs.

Here I am giving some input fiber needs as per the age, you may go through this.
For Males (19-50 years): 38gm/day
For Females (19-50 years): 25gm/day
For Male (51 years and older): 30gm/day
For Females (51 years and older): 21 mg/day
And also in some cases requirement for fiber varies somewhat among individuals.
Also try to consume insoluble fiber rather than soluble fibers. Insoluble fiber increases the movement of material through your digestive system; makes your stool bulkier and soft so it is to expel. It can be of benefit to those who struggle with constipation or irregular stools. Whole-wheat flour, wheat bran, nuts and many vegetables are good sources of insoluble fiber.

Try to drink minimum 4liters of water in day, I hope definitely you will get rid all of your constipation issues.
After recovery, please let me know your health issues.

Dear Akuma, try Prune juice or eat dried prunes. They are an excellent way for laxative. As you mentioned that you’re doing regular exercise and following the diet. you might be eating junk food its takes longer time to digestive I would like to suggest you consult a doctor and tell your symptoms to doctor he/she suggest you the exact range of your condition apart of that I would personally suggest you avoid below following things.

Vegetables are roughage and they allow things to move. And i recommend taking a natural laxative.

Avoid fatty foods such as
Meat: especially fatty meat, red meat, etc.
Dairy products: such as cheese, ice cream and whole milk.
Fast foods: burgers, French fries and other fried foods, pizza, etc.

You need to maintain balance in fiber intake. If fiber intake increase or decrease you can get these type of problems. While consuming fiber foods maintain equilibrium. Here am giving the fiber intake level as per their age and gender.

Men below 50 years have to consume 38 gm per day.
Women below 50 years have to consume 25 gm per day.
Men above 50 years have to consume 30 gm per day.
Women above 50 years have to consume 21 gm per day.

Try to maintain balance in fiber intake and drink more water.
