Let me preface this by saying I'm self-dx'ing -- never a good idea, I know -- but I like to get an idea in advance of what I might be up against by the time I actually manage to see a dr. Does anyone know anything about peripheral neuropathy? I am trying to figure out why my right foot is numb and my right calf is tingly most of the time. nerve damage? I have a clotting disorder, but I've never had a clot on my right side anywhere, much less in my right leg! They've all been left-sided. And I'm not diabetic, which seems to be a risk factor.

Thanks,
Candy

I have peripheral neuropathy (amongst other maladies)

Mine began in one big toe...and has "worked" it's way up both legs to the lower part of the calves. I do not have good sensation in my feet at all... tingling numbness, with sharp pain at times, often actually. It doesn't seem right, nor fair..to have numbness AND pain!! stomp stomp stomp

I would guess you need to use heat to make sure the circulation is good still... and recent studies showed that exercising the arms vigorously even while sitting, increases blood flow to the legs and feet nerve damage?

I don't know how they dx it, but I do know that a lot of people with neuropathy have to wear AFOs or DAFOs, which are a specialized kind of plastic brace to help the foot function better.

BTW peripheral nerves can repair themselves but it's very slowly...at about 1 mm per day... I damage those nerves all the time and always sense various recovery stages...all SLOW!

How do you damage them?? I thought the damage was done by poor circulation (at least in my case).
