I had a fasting glucose blood draw, well, 2 of them, actually a month apart. I haven't heard results of the latest one yet, but the first one was out of sight. Pdoc decided to take me off the Seroquel because of it. Sucks, because aside from Lamictal, that's about all that's worked well for me moodwise, and I can't even breathe the word "Lamictal" after having it nearly kill me.
So, what does one do besides screw with meds to get one's blood sugar down? I think everybody here knows, but I should mention I'm a cow, so losing weight has just become a huge priority. But other than that, anything that will help? I suppose this means I have to start getting up early enough to eat real food for breakfast instead of donuts and Poptarts? ![]() Candy |

cut out the carbs and yes honey that means no donuts! hehe anything white. eat more veggies. green type. cut out breads too unless whole grain. you can find low carb foods but they are pricey but hey you do what you gotta do right? I hate this thing! takes all the good food away

UGH. I *live* on pasta and rice!!!
I have to watch it with leafy greens because of my clotting disorder. Leafy greens screw with my blood thinner. Ugh, this isn't going to leave me with much to work with, is it! |

For pasta and rice, you can get whole-wheat, which is more healthy for you. I love my pasta... and anyone who suggests cutting down to protect my health (because I'm probably hypoglycemic, but refuse to get tested) will be very much in trouble.
Try cutting out some of the obvious sugars (chocolate - you can have some dark though) and any high fat/high sugar deserts. Watch how much juice you drink as well... even natural fruit sugars in excess are bad for you. Drink more water... cut down on the amount of sugar/additives in your coffee/tea. Try for foods that require more effort by your body to break down, so that way the blood sugar doesnt "spike" as much. I'm trying to cut down on my sodium/sugar/fat intake so I understand your pain. ![]() (((((((Candy)))))))))

I remember being on some board and reading that Seroquel is known to cause diabetes in SOME people. You can google that side effect. I would kill most of the carbs in your diet while you get things in better control. No real pop , even too many diets can run sugars up. Eat only good carbs and watch the portions. You would be shocked at what a real serving is

Hey there. Yes you have to cut out pasta and rice and when you do have Pasta it needs to be whole grain and a very small amount. Protein is good and my hubby has been on coumadin 30 years. You can eat green leafy, the coumadin can be adjusted. You just need to eat the same things all of the time so it stays regular. So start with what you will do, get a blood test after 2 weeks and adjust as ordered. Keep eating same things. Candy, please don't kick me okay? WALKING is very good. Yeah, I am hiding under the bed, can't find me.

LOL I promise not to kick you. I really don't have any choice now about figuring out what to do for exercise, etc. It doesn't help my depression but maybe it will help other things. We'll see, I guess.

I'm not much for fruit juices anyway, but what about real fruit? It's got plenty of sugar as well, even though it's "natural" sugar.

2 a day and a serving is half a bananna,a small apple etc. 149 is high but not as high as I thought you would say. I hope it straightens out. I am glad I don't get kicked. Seriously I have seen people beat it by losing weight and walking. Easy said since it would be hard for me, the weight thing and I don't eat. That is a story in on it's own.

I'm living that life right now. I am also on Seroquel and I love it! My fasting blood sugar is always high, has always been on the high side, but when I eat it goes back to normal range. Sugar is sugar, natural sugar is really no better for you than refined sugar (where your blood sugar is concerned at least). My husband has been diabetic for years. Several years ago he did a motified Atkins. His blood sugar was awesome. With atkins, after a period of time, you're supposed to add 5 grams of carbs each week until you start gaining weight. Then you go back 5 grams and that's what your body can handle. He never added any carbs. He went without eating carbs for two years! I wish I had his dedication. But I don't care for cheese I know that's not pc here in Wisconsin, but I just don't like it. I don't like eggs either, which leaves meat and beans, who can just eat meat and beans?

I had a sister who was diagnosed with Diabetes I in her youth so our family is predisposed to diabetes. I had a scare when my blood sugars were skyrocketing overnight. Early in teh morning, the readings were through teh roof, but, by evening, it was down to normal. As it turned out, I had an infection somewhere that was boosing teh blood sugars at certain times of the day. Once I was on antibiotics, the blood sugars fell back to normal.
Not ignoring the other factors, like medications and diet, also consider possible infection. That will boost your blood sugar levels also. |
