thx for the replies
went to the hosp today, lots of tests..
Just came home. He's asleep.
Think we all are worn out now
I know the way they treat cancer has gotten much better over the last years etc
but what if he doesnt.. what if it doesnt work for him
And chemotherapy.. they said they want to start chemotherapy as soon as possible... that aint an easy thing to go trough either...
I wish I could take this away for him
I would trade places with him if I could
I mean... what's next... when are things going our way for a change... It's just... welll... life SUCKS

Blue first let me say that i am so very sorry that this is happening to your family but i want you to stay positive. I hate to say it this way but if you are going to get cancer...leukemia would be the one you would want. They survival rates are so high its amazing. I know i sound crazy for saying it that way but i have had 3 friends with cancer and two of them had leukemia. The one girl Emma was only 6 when she got it and the other Christian was10. But they are both healthy now and doing great. Try to just be there for him and help him through it. I know with my friend christian she still had so much fun with it. WHen she lost her hair she got all different colored wigs and then she and her sister would go in the store then come out and change wigs and keep doing that and people would be so confused! FInd fun things to do with him to still let him feel like a kid.

We went to the hosp today for more information from the test they'd done last week, i assume.

Turns out it is acute myolegenous (sp?) leukemia.
Rather rare in children cause its mostly older adults that get this type children almost always get acute lymphoblastic leukemia (again sp?).
They added something to it but I can't remember the name... But there are two types of aml, one that has to do with other disceases and one that well, isn't. My brother has the 2nd one.

Treatment is pretty much the same though.. They want to start with chemo soon. They want him to go to the hosp tomorrow and then they'll start chemo wednesday probably. They said the first 3,4,5 months are supposed to be the hardest because of the large doses of chemo..
This is like the first round. After this he'll get chemo in low doses.. sort of to make sure it won't return.

Total treatment time; 2 years if everyone goes as planned.
Percentage of people that make it to remission is 60-80 %.
People alive 5 years after remission: 50%
They said he has an advantage being a child though... so let's hope it goes well and won't come back... pff... what a day.

I sooooo do not want to leave him in the hosp tomorrow... I gotta be strong for him, he doesn't need to worry about me or anything as well.. But damn... sometimes i just dont know...

Blue

<font color="purple">I just looked it up on Wikipedia:

</font><blockquote><div id="quote"><font class="small">Quote:</font>
The overall cure rate in children is 85%, and about 50% of adults have long-term disease-free survival

</div></font></blockquote><font class="post">

So I guess his age gives him a 35% boost </font>

yeah i guess it depends on what site you look at though
also aml is different from all or all kinds of leukemia together
And remission and 5 years after remission (officially 'cured') are to different things too
but i'll ask his doctor cause now i'm not sure anymore!
but yeah the younger the better ironically..

He went into the hospital today... I hate the idea that he is there alone. :/

5 year survival rate (after remission) AML: 40%
for kids about 50% (also depending on wich kind of aml)
