A question for people with heart problems / issues....
What kind of symptoms do you tend to suffer from when your heart acts up? - mild to severe symptoms, please list them all. Thank you. |

 - No Heart Patient willing to share their experiences? ? ? ? ? ?* * * * * Ok - I will share my symptoms: Chest Pain (mostly right side) Chest Pain (dead center) Shortness of Breath Numbness in face and lips Back & Jaw Pain Nausea with headaches and chest pains Palpitations (flutters, thumps, pauses/stops) |

Yowza! The jaw pain is worrisome. Nothing down the arm or in the shoulder blades? Weren't you going to be wearing an event monitor?
When mine is pain it's a gasping, sucked my air away pain that is mid-to left side, down the left arm, around to my back, shortness of breath. I've had a cath and everything looks good. When my IST (inappropriate sinus tachycardia) acts up, that makes my heart race--180-190 just sitting is not unusual. My heart beats excessively hard, through a turtleneck and sweater you can see it beat if you're sitting across from me. My ears plug up and I go from super hot to not. It also gets hard to breathe.

Is it a "trigger" monitor? (meaning you have to trigger it when you feel a symptom) or is it a continuous read? Either way sometimes I feel those are useless. For me it showed that yep, my heart rate really does go up that high and the palpitations were a few pvc's and pac's, long run of sinus tach. I know there are instances where they are very helpful, so I guess I shouldn't say that. Do you get any syncopal episodes--feeling faint and dizzy? I sure hope they find something concrete soon!

for the palpitations try lying on your left side. I find that when my heart is thumping that hard I just move to that side and it subsides within a few minutes.

How did they miss that with all their test? |

I will be taking the monitor back on Wednesday and I am slightly disappointed in the thought that while they have many many readings that says I am having something going one with my heart (they already knew this) - I have yet to have any good readings of my Flutters, Thumps and Stops that the doctor needs to see to determine if I require a Pacemaker or not.......
I sure would hate to die while the doctors try to figure put the problem. *sigh* |

If the monitor shows nothing, request an EP study, which means if your caediologist is not an EP doc, you'll need to see one. EP is electrophysiology--EP docs are the body's electricians. http://www.hrspatients.org/patients/...logy_study.asp

Thank you - I will request that procedure if the King of Hearts shows nothing... as it was the electrical part of the heart that went bad on my friend then took his life at 52 years old.

They are uncomfortable after a while. I had an EPS done a couple years and darn it if my heart wouldn't do it, even with stimulation! However, as I work closely with an EP, I know they are very effective ways of finding electrical problems. That whole HRS website is very informative. One of the problems with wearing the monitor is it is anxiety-causing, therefore it is not a normal scenario. They also have what they call "loop recorders" that are implanted, much like a pacemaker, except they don't give any therapy. It records the ekg and is left in for approximately a year (or until there is a diagnosis).

that part is almost over for you right hon? woo hoo!
they are doing testing on my heart since I had that TIA last week. also my heart skips beats quite a bit. in december it did it for 2 hrs. like every 4th or 5 beat! it was freaky. good luck with yours hon!
