I learned to hate ALL insurance companies. They hold us hostage and make us wait to process our claims, for no reason other than the longer they hang on to the money, the more they make off of it b4 paying. I don't like health ins, homeowner's insurance, and auto insurance. We a premium poor! Pay thousand's a year. Rates continually increase even though you've had a company 40 years and have never had a claim!

Insurance companies have control of a large percentage of every dollar in the US.

Nowadays, all shrinks do is prescribe meds. That's all the insurance companies will pay them to do. If you want someone to talk to, you pretty much have to go to a therapist.

I work in the industry. I can help a little. Understand that the first people you talk to have no real ability to control the situation. It is on you to take charge of it. You will need to repeat yourself a lot. And you need to tell them exactly what you need. And you need to insist on them escalating if they cannot get it for you. If you aren't happy? Escalate again and tell them. Ultimately the other person on the phone is just a bottom tier employee with no control in most situations. I know. That's me.

Follow up question. I have been having difficulties getting all my monthly meds recently due to financial difficulties. I have been trying to do some research online on ways to get my meds cheaper but have not been able to find a great source of online reviews. I came across this site Cliopharma.com Review ? Excellent Customer Service and it is just one of the links to their reviews and have followed the links down a few layers to find that it still seems a little difficult to find good information. Nonetheless, I just wanted to ask whether anyone has ever tried to pursue this route. I realize there's some sacrifice for reliability for lower cost and maybe a little higher risk, but I've read that other countries, you can buy the same meds from even the "corner convenience store, without even having a prescription.

Rather than risking meds from unregulated sources, have you checked into patient assistane programs that give free meds from the pharmaceutical company based on income? Even if you don't meet all criteria I've found that they will still give you meds if you explain your needs aren't met/why you can't afford meds.

Other places to check are rxoutreach.com which offers really good prices on meds, xubec.com (I've not used it but has good prices too), and goodrx.com which shows you what different pharmacies charge and links to coupons.

I've been able to cobble things together pretty well with those sources.

As BeyondtheRainbow above, I have had good success with GoodRx.com. For instance, I had paid $144 for a self pay 'script at CVS. With a coupon from GoodRx.com, I paid $50 for the same 'script at the same CVS.

All insurance companies suck they are in it to make as much money as possible
and your health is the last thing they care about. Many people will and do die
because of insurance companies and our politicians are in bed with them.
That is why we don't have universal health care in the U.S.
That is another reason insurance policies are so complicated, it's done on purpose.
It is very very sad indeed.

I don't know much about my insurance company because it's through my dad. But I can tell you that I hate issues with insurance. He's weirdly paranoid and controlling when it comes to our using the insurance, which is ridiculous, and every single time I go to the doctor I have to explain why to him. He didn't speak to me for a month after I broke my foot in two places because I went to Urgent Care. Sorry, I'm a hiker...I'd like my foot to be functional!

I agree with you, they're only out to take our money. Our entire healthcare system is a nightmare.

I work in the insurance industry (property and casualty) but I feel like an idiot when it comes to health insurance. The insurance and the pharmaceutical companies care about the dollar signs and nothing about the human element. I resent paying all of these out of pocket healthcare costs when I already have insurance. The system should be way easier to navigate so that people can actually be informed and make the right decisions for themselves.

I have a love hate thing going on with mine. They helped save my son's life, but only after first ignoring his symptoms for far too long. They saved my moms life twice, but again, only after almost killing her with neglect....and what I've been through and just recently learned about my health issues and pain, it seems I was a victim of this neglect also and may have lost years of my livelihood as a direct consequence of their negligent care. I don't think insurance companies have our best interests at heart at all.

I have worked for insurance companies yet it is my firm belief that the insurance and banking industries are economic vampires taking a greater and greater cut of the pie while producing nothing. They lure us in by promising security (an illusion) or by forcing us to obtain more insurance than we really want by buying off our politicians. It is no wonder that I was not promoted while I worked in this industry. My attitude toward it prevented my success. Instead I tended to empathize with my customers while at the same time having the feeling of being ticked off all the time because of all the injustices going on.......

I worked for a big insurance company as a social worker. But my clientele were on Medicaid and paid nothing. My current situation is I'm on disability (SSDI) and "paying" monthly for Medicare. Yet I still have 20% out-of-pocket plus RX's co-pays. My 20% is killing me. When I go to a doc appt and they want labs and x-rays. I get billed from three different departments. I'm on a payment plan with a local hospital $125 per month. That's less money I have to buy groceries. But there's nothing I can do about it if I do not pay it they put it on your credit. I tried looking for a supplemental but there $300 because I'm not a senior citizen!??? I make too much for Medicaid

Coco - check into Medicare Advantage plans in your community. They are HMOs. An HMO is going to somewhat restrict your choice, but for most people, the savings is well worth it. Plus you can switch to a different HMO every year, so they try to keep you happy.

Here's a link: https://www.medicare.gov/find-a-plan...ions/home.aspx

Here's another link: https://www.bcbsok.com/employer/bluelincs_hmo.htm

Also, if there is a state run hospital in your area (like one affiliated with a state university,) that hospital might have a special set up for area residents.

Depending on your income, you might be able to get your state Medicaid to pay your Medicare Part B premium for you. You would go to your local Income Support Services office (where one applies for food stamps,) and apply there.

If your only income is Social Security (and you don't own any real estate,) then no one can really sue you for anything. If that were your situation, then you could simply default on medical debt.

Yeah, if you don't pay, the hospital might report it to the credit bureau. Ask yourself what that will really do to you.

Here's another option: tell the hospital you're going to start paying them $75/mon., instead of $125. They may just have to settle for what you give them.

We in this country have to start getting as ruthless with the healthcare industry, as it is with us.
Thanks for this!

I have a love hate relationship with mines.i enjoyed being with my last therapist then the company put up new rules and said I would have to leave that therapy group cause I was going to two different hospitals and the other had there own therapist and groups.i only ended up at that hospital in the first place cause the insurance company switched us without informing us.i guess cause I had not gone to there hospital for treatment when I was sick that's why they did that.but this new place doesn't offer much and some doctors have been rude.i have not improved at this place but apparently switching back will be hard and right now it's better cause there's no pay or anything like that for most of it.
