HA HA HA! I just got a letter in the mail for jury duty! There is no way I am getting into that. I realize it is my "duty as a citizen" , but I can't even believe the stress/anxiety that would cause! Anyway, there is a section where you can explain any physical or mental reasons why you shouldn't be considered. I am going to check with my t about what to put. Any suggestions, or anyone who has had to fill that out? I figure if I had to just quit my job for both physical and mental problems, I shouldn't be expected to be on a jury. Let's just say I am not good at making decisions of any kind, much less about something legal. Geesh!

The only way I got out of jury duty the one time I was called up was because I was breastfeeding one of my kids. Can't help ya there.

I'm sure they won't have a problem letting you out of your duty. Your T probably has lots of experience with this. Let him/her help you with how to explain your situation.

YES yes yes say NO NO NO!!!

My T writes the letter. He has had to do it now 3 times I think (uses the one from before and changes the date lol) But I think they now have me on permanent NO>

This is too much stress, even if it was "just" sitting in the jury box... but it isn't it's on call, sitting in a room -maybe for days- with strangers... the interrogation of what you believe and what you think you might feel... oh dear.

Thanks! My t is the first one I thought of. She will say "no way!" She won't let me do it, she knows me too well and how I will react. Not breastfeeding right now (or ever again, for that matter!), so I can't use that one! Jury Duty????? Glad to hear that your t has gotten you out of it, Sky, that makes me feel better! HUGS to both of you!

(btw, my husband just thinks this is SOOOO funny!)

I got out of jury duty once. Then they rescheduled me. Thankfully the case settled and I wasnt needed. However, I think everyone should know, if you already dont. They quit only picking potential jurors from people who were registered. Now, if you have a drivers license and your over the age of 18, you can be picked. YUCK. I hate jury duty.

The first time I told them that I had dutied with in my household that prevented me from serving. Then they rescheduled me in the summer time. Bastards. I would just have your T write a letter stating that you are unable to serve. Worse case senerio, you go to jury selection and tell them you can not be objectionable. They will discharge you and send you home.
I dont think it will come to that though. I think a letter from your T will be enough. I wish you luck. Jury Duty?????

I got called for Jury Duty a little over a year ago. I checked that I could not go due to a mental disorder and put my T's name and address on there as well. They contacted my T and he explained to them that I could not sit in a court room and be on a jury due to my mental disorder and the fact that I could have a panic attack or switch (being DID ) during the trial. I was excused from jury duty then. So just ask your T if you can put down their name and how to be reached so that your T can explain to them the reason why you can't do jury duty. That way they won't think you are trying to get out of it for no reason. Good Luck

Ohboy can I remember being called when in the throes of my panic disorder.......I barely made it to the "meeting" - NO ONE was excused from. I had my family doc, Pdoc and T all fill out the forms, and I was "rejected".......thank God ! (Altho they kept a pregnant lady - who actually ended up going into labor during a BIG trial - and they were really angry she had the nerve to do that ! LOL!!!) Your T and PDoc can get u outta this I am sure. If there is a place for YOU to write about your reason to be "rejected', explain that for no reason, outta the blue you might have to RUN from the Courtroom, which could cause a mistrial, and even a Security Officer with a gun would not stop you from leaving ! Courts dont want the possibility of a mistrial.

Don't worry about it - you will soon be added to the list of "rejects from Jury Duty" :-)

Thanks so much! This is great to hear because I really don't think I could handle it. I see my t tomorrow and will ask her about it. I'm sure she has run into this before. I'll let you know. HUGS!
