I have been abandon by my therapist and I am falling apart. She decided to stop my therapy and did not refer me to anyone. I am anorexic and have not been doing well for awhile and she knows that. My 15 year old son is dying from cancer and she still stopped my therapy. I have not been able to find a therapist on my own. They all say I am not medically stable. So what am I to do.

Hi holy %#@&#! I am sorry..This seems like it would be illegal or unethical or something. Can you call your local DSS and get some names..maybe even low cost? I am new and not the best one to give you help I am sure someone with more info will post soon but this is WRONG. I am so sorry this was done to you and you have a lot of things going on. God bless you and your son I am just very sorry.

(((((nanhill)))))

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I know from personal experience that it can feel like the world is ending. I don't know the specifics of your situation, but I just can't see how a therapist is right to terminate therapy abruptly, especially without giving a referral. Ever!!!! And you aren't "medically stable"???? Seems to me that's the very reason you need someone. I feel angry for you!!! I wish I had more helpful words for you. I guess, just try to keep looking (I know, SO much easier said than done). And keep coming here.....it's a very cool place.

I am so sorry about your son, my prayers are with you both!! Now about the therapist.....how long have you been seeing your her/him? Do you take medication for your depression? If so, maybe your pdoc can get you with a therapist that would be of more help. If not, than by all means hook up with a pdoc that can help you search for a new therapist, and at the same time help you with any medication issues. If you are not taking any medication (anti-depressants, etc.) now, then I would really suggest it.....just from personal experience.....they really help!!!. Take care!

Holy %#@&#! is right! What can we do to help you find a new therapist? I'm very sorry to hear about your son. I'll keep both of you in my prayers. We're here if you need us. Take good care of yourself until you find a replacement (sounds like you need one anyway after the way you've been treated) and be strong. You'll get through this.

For me, you haven't given enough information surrounding this. I am sorry that you feel like you were just dropped without any notice or care. </font><blockquote><div id="quote"><font class="small">Quote:</font>
Licensing boards will review any formal written complaint about a psychologist's services or behavior. They will take action to discipline the psychologist if they find evidence that the psychologist provided incompetent, or unprofessional services or engaged in unethical or inappropriate or illegal behavior. You may not know whether the psychologist's behavior is incompetent or unprofessional without advice. If the psychologist's behavior seems inappropriate to you, contact the licensing board, the professional association or another professional to share your concerns and receive guidance.

That you are not considering future therapy might suggest, imo, that you weren't benefitting from it.
