Once or twice a month I go and visit with the animals in our local shelter. Sadly, so many cats are in housing already that they are temporarily not taking in more cats. They are now offering 2 cats for the adoption fee for one cat. My gosh...a BOGOF at the shelter. This really bugs me. If only folks would be more responsible with their pets. Ugh!!

I know what you mean dottie. Our humane society is terribly "overpopulated" too. At one time they were doing the 2 for 1 thing. It's terrible how some people think it's ok to put animals in situations like these. My dog came from the humane society also, and I have visited there often...even volunteered there. Some of the conditions are just awful.

until we get people educated about spaying, neutering and being responsible pet owners, we're screwed. there are so many wonderful pets in shelters and yet people insist upon spending $$$ for a purebred. i wish more people would take the time to go to their local shelter and "shop" for a pet. they would love what they take home....pat

i tend to agree, we got our first kitten from a couple who were going to kill there kittens instead of taking them to the shelter so they would not have to die..

My second cat came from the shelter, and so did my ex-mother in lawas cat that she had for awhiel before it passed on..
We have a black lab now, and if I had not gotten him, I would have shopped at the shelter for a doggie in the window as they say..

Our local Pet Stores every saturday has adoption day here wehre we live and they always go home epety handed I think it is wonderful..

I wish more and more would do the spay and netuer thing too..

Where do you live?? Just wondering so maybe I could spread the word for adoptions for animals ok

Fortunately...the shelter here is clean and well-managed. Plus, we are lucky to have dedicated employees & volunteers.

I have a cockatoo and a green-cheek conure parrot. They
really are terrific company when you live alone.

I rent movies at my local library and we all sit and watch them together. LOL!

Last week I put on a horror movie..and during a pivotal point in the flick my Conure fell off her perch. I was sitting there at the edge of my seat...while my bird was sitting at the edge of her perch. LOL...they can be so human. So comical too. (snicker)

This is prob off topic but just wanted to note, that if your an animal lover, u may want to check into "animal testing". It will break your heart . The horrible things these animals endure in the name of science....................Procter & Gamble uses animals for testing of their products... You'd be shocked what they do for the research of IAMS dog food.... Covance is one of the labs that do the testing..... IS really gross.....

I was at a local pet store today that offers space to a local shelter for cat adoptions and its the same situation--two cats for the price of one! It's a great deal, but it is sad to think how overcrowded the shelters are.

The irresponsibility of pet 'owners' sickens me sometimes. People are so selfish that they refuse to act maturely & control the breeding of their animals - a lot of them even say that spaying & neutering are 'unnatural'. And then they let their dogs & cats roam the neighborhoods unleashed...

Then again, most people can't even make mature & intelligent decisions regarding their own reproduction, so why expect them to think differently about their pets?

It is sad. I wish I could take in a pair...however I have 2 parrots AND cats & dogs are not allowed where I live. I would be willing to put up a deposit with my landlord...but no go! The answer is always: NO!
