Back in 2006, my husband and I were split up. I was staying at his mom's house fora couple of days . his mom takes alot of pills. imean that woman can take a whole bottle of xanax and not be falling around. She is also addicted to ultrams, she takes around 10 at a time. She also has high BP and seizures. Well one night, she did'nt have any xanax and she was taking those ultrams like candy. Between the ultrams raising her already high bp and the I guess detox of not having any xanax, she fell out in a sezuire. She hit her head in the tile and got a tiny cut but it bled like I have never seen. Out of reflex I grabbed some paper towels and put my hand over it. Blood got all over my hand and her face. I had a cut on my hand from punching through a window in a panic attack the week before. And ever since then aids is in my head. I asked her if she had anything like that and she said no cause she was in prison the year before and I guess in the pen they test you for all stds. And well she looks healthier than she did 4 years ago. She gained about 40 punds (she got sober) and looks really good. I keep bringing it up to her and she keeps telling me it is ok. My husband says that it is too. But every time me or him gets a little sick. my fears get so bad I do not even want to get out of bed. M best friend died from aids. But the docs said they belive he had it untreated for 3 years before he died. And he went from 220 lbs to 120 lbs just from 2007 till 2008. I asked him before he died and he said i would know if I were sick because for 2 years he has had constant diarrieah and extreme weight loss without trying and alot of lung infections. Really bad one's not just bronchitis but he said he could'nt even talk because he could'nt breathe and would cough and have really bad chest pain. And he just felt plain sick all that time. He helped calm my fears about it. And all that but his death made all this worse. He died fom pcp pnumonia. My husband and I have severe allergies. Around this time of year everyone in my town will get the worst cough and everyone looks like crap cause we live ina river town where allergens are bad. So I have had it ow my husband has it. He has been coughing and had congestion. So now my nerves are really bad. I went to my doc Wendsday and she said my heart rate was very high (my anxiety) and did an EKG (it was fine) I did'nt wn tot tell her I had'nt been asleep yet (my pain kept me from sleeping) because I did'nt want her to think I was a druggie or something. She wanted to check my blood for aniemia and to see if my Iron levels or pottasium were down. So she did a CBC. I am so nervous about it. I get the results Mon. or Tues. I'm nervous. I fell sick to my stomach. Sorry if this makes no sense but my thoughts are really jumbled right now.

Although my understanding is HIV requires a specific test and that a CBC by itself cannot directly detect it, I think it's great your doctor ordered the CBC. The test can be a useful tool in drawing the doctor's attention to a variety of potential problems. You don't want all your symptoms to be laid at the door of depression, etc.

Wishing you calm spirits and "actionable" results from the test

Perhaps I missed it in your post, but if you are nervous about being infected in 2006, why don't you simply go to a clinic and get tested?

The CBC will be good, detecting any infections (white cell count) and general health (red would be important for anemia). The CBC isn't anything to fear really, will help if you're run-down from something but HIV takes awhile to allow for AIDS. There's a lot of immune diseases these days and AIDS care/survival rates have improved enormously.

"After the first flu-like symptoms, some people with HIV stay healthy for ten years or longer. But during this time, HIV is damaging your immune system."

From: http://www.jis.gov.jm/special_sectio...s/default.html

I wouldn't fear any particularly disease; there's so many and no way of knowing which one might get.

I don't know...fear mabye? Ever since I was 14 (I was molested by a 25 yearold man) I have had this fear of Aids. I used to go to the library and look up all the symptoms of it and (still do) check my body for unusual marks or swollen lymph nodes (still do that too) When I was 16 I got a really bad strep infection that caused thrush of course I cried and cried till I figured out it was the strep. I never have told anyone until now about my fears of this. I thought it would help to do that. But it has'nt. Before my husband was dx with Crohn's they tested him for that and all other STDs and they all cam eback neg and still I worried.

Yeah I am worried about my Iron levels. I have along history of being iron deficient and aneimic. But i don't tolerate iron supplements at all and the defiencny and aneimia make you feel so bad. I have only had the flu once that I can remember. I was pregnant with my youngest son. As far as infections and things like that go, I have'nt really had any. Except for chronic strep when I was a kid. But I have horrible allergies. And when it gets in my chest that's when I have the worst aids anxiety.

I would think living in fear for so long would be much worse than actually knowing what is going on and facing it head on. In your mind you are already dealing with the worst case senerio, a test could very possibly put your mind at ease in this case.

That anxiety does the worst things doesn't it! The reason a cell count is done is because white cells increase when there is any infection in the body, that includes allergy infection. Usually with a white cell increase there is a red cell decrease, but as pointed out that can be because of ferrous deficiency.

There are many reasons a red cell count can be abnormal but it is the very first step in indicating what, where etc. The next is the esr erythrocyte sedimentation rate is an index which also shows if there is inflamation or infection and as it settles between certain indeces it flags different possibilities as far as illness goes. If the esr is over a certain rate the lab will automatically to a titre count to check for automimmune disease of any kind.

Hope that helps Thunderbear. I worked as a path nurse for a number of years and loved it. I hope you feel a little better now, though I know that sometimes we don't feel better until we have the information we want,

((((hugs to you))))

Greetings,

I have read quite a few of your posts and you seem very disturbed, on an ongoing basis. Such disturbance truly needs professional treatment. We, of course, we offer the most positive support we can give you, though, are you doing everything you can, on your part, to truly help youself overcome such darkness?

Again, I hope you can find a solution to your woes. In the meantime, try to stay positive, alright?

Have a good one.
