I have a friend that is having an extremely hard time financially right now. Mainly she's having trouble with food and with her electricity bill. What types of places would she call for help with her electricity bill? I had a few ideas of where she can go for help with food, but I have no clue about the other. Please let me know if you know! Thanks Needy Friend

county human services should have a program set up for someone that's going to have electric shut off. has she tried to set up a payment plan with the electric company? also, sometimes the united way, etc. will help. start with county services.

you're a good friend.

Our electric company sent out a flyer with our last bill saying if you think you are going to have trouble paying your high winter bills to call them (we have electric baseboard heat). According to them there are state programs that help with this. I would assume every state has these programs.

I would also try the Salvation Army. They have always been very helpful when folks are in need. Are their any food pantries in the area? They will help. The hardest part is asking for help.

Your friend is lucky to have you.

In my area there are several churches that help out with food and bills. You could call around to several and see if they do that in your area. I agree with the salvation army they are good to help out when needed.

I was going to post about the Salvation Army. They also give out emergency food and keep a list of other agencies to call. When I was first starting out here in this apt., they helped me. I'll always be grateful.

That's sweet Spazz. I wish I could help her too. But I just can't! Makes me feel horrible. But at least she is getting some help from the Salvation Army. I'm SOOOO thankful for that. Needy Friend

Good to hear... I, also, was going to say the Salvation Army. I have NEVER known them to turn anyone away. . . which is why my donations go to them and not the ARC sigh .. personal choice for personal experience reasons only. Calling the power company themselves, and all their utilities, phone, water etc .. in S FL if you are receiving any kind of ssi or such, you can receive discounted utility fees.. but you have to ask. Please don't feel horrible, I know how it seems to be your fault or you feel it is. However, you're a WONDERFUL person for wanting to help her out as much as you can! She really has a great friend in you!
