in il that might start in 2 weeks.i think they should drug test people who want state aid.because if they test people all the druggies taking advantage of help would get cut off and that would save the state a lot of money.going to the state aid office is scarey and most of the people i had to wait in line with where thugs and some women 10 years younger then me with 5 kids.

I think assuming every person on drugs is a bad person isn't going to help anyone.

People take drugs for a reason. Some are due to the hugely traumatic lives they've led with continuing problems that mean they see their only way to cope with life is to take drugs. People with addictions are just as much in need of help as anyone with any other mental health problem.
Thanks for this!

Many people who take drugs are suffering from pre-existing mental health problems that cause them to self medicate. Taking away their access to welfare is hardly going to make their situation any eaiser, and would be detrimental to society. Imagine if people who didn't make it onto the list of the "deserving poor" ended up flooding the streets. How exactly would that benefit society? It would in fact make matters much worse. There's a reason we no longer abide by Victorian ideas of morality... those ideas didn't work. Time to show a bit of compassion.

i'm talking more about people that take advantage of the help.i have seen people at wal mart with food stamps after shopping get in really nice cars and drive away.plus i have heard thugs brag about using the system on the bus and metro link.i live in a area that is slowly turning into a ghetto.

If you are not in a situation where you can't get the meds because of having no insurance, you can still get your meds. There are clinics and pharmaceutical companies that will provide them at no charge if you meet certain guidelines. You are right, there are many people who use the system to get what they don't need. They give state aid a bad reputation because of it. I get angry because I have to rely on gov't funds. I'm disabled so I live on SSI and a little food stamps When I do need the help, I can't get it. I spend my life jumping through hoops to get what I sincerely need. But drug testing everyone who needs gov't funds is not a solution. It doesn't prove anything.

This. Also not everybody who does drugs sometimes to unwind is a junkie. Does smoking a joint with friends on Saturday night make you a social outcast who best be shipped over the Ural to Siberia? Drug addicts usually do not do drugs merely for "fun", but rathers as form of escapism. How are your problems any more worthy than theirs?

Reducing "defense" expenses would save lot of money for example. Keeping one ICMB or one fighter jet functional costs money that could help those in need.
Why do people always look in the lowest places to save money anyways? Take it from the poor so it can be thrown onto gay-bomb project or on hookers for senators?
