Does anybody (not dxd DID) refer to themselves as 'we' during the thought process? I'm BP2,OCD and Quiet BPD...Btw, it comes so naturally, don't know how long I've been doing it, but got scared when I had a few psychotic depressions and the 3 'we's' were arguing so LOUDLY that I had 2 scream at them 2 STFU! Been trying to change to 'I' but been quite unsuccessful. I just sorta decided that this my norm...

i haven't been diagnosed with DID, but do have a diagnoses of dissociation problems/traits... but i believe its DID.. And anyways, i know this prolly doesn't really answer your question, but in my head, it has always been "we" and "us". Lately it has been slipping out when we talk or type when It isn't meant to be..

Thanks Lexie. I'm able to stick to the singular, during conversations and chatting, but my thinking is always in the plural i.e we and us...

It could be many things. It could be just normal. it could be DID. It could be the way others have talked to you, which you might of subconciously not knowing it picked it up too. But as far as I know, I have never personally met someone who talks of thinking in the plural form who didn't have DID. But I dont know too much in that diagnoses either, and i try to keep it that way because of all the suggestiveness i've heard about it. And I dont need any added issues.. lol...

LOL. I've been trying to ascertain when this started, so far I remember being 13 and doing this. I mentioned it to my eldest brother, and he said not to worry, my actual dominant personality was still being formed and I was just a little unsure about who I am... Well I'm 27 now, know myself very well, and STILL do it. Maybe it's just a weird habit...

We all have competing voicees in our head, "should I cheat on my girl, oh yeah". "no,
no, don't do it". Then the competing ideas as to why or why not. The difference is in degree, some don't have their conversations spill out into verbal arguments the Neighborhood can hear. I write things out, in each of the voices and if some of them get to loud or abusive, having it in writing can make it emotionally easier to separate myself from being high-jacked and have one or more voices run away with me, especially if they are unhealthy. rule of thumb, healthy voices almost never high-jack us, it is the negative ones, with fear, anger or resentment that take control and worries us. then I started listening very close to how adults talk to children and other adults. I found that where I live and work right now its quite common and is just a learned habit from the way people are now raising their children.. when reprimanding children hitting isnt usually done. usually the parent says "we dont do that, its not acceptable this is your warning" treatment providers ask their clients "how are we today" there are many instances I have found like this that promotes the habit of referring to one self as "we" maybe this is the case where you are. you may have been raised with this newer standard of raising children that has been in affect for about 15-20 yrs so maybe its just a learned habit. if so like any habit it can be unlearned. |

That was a pretty brief post ~ and you apologized for rambling?! Silly! I am unsure of my diagnoses at this point, other than major depression, strong quiet BPD traits, and PTSD. Personally, I don't ever think or talk in the we sense. My tendency is to dissociate (and watch myself move and talk) during stressful times.

I had a group of older men in my head that use to make their pronouncements to me, about me and my life. I told my therapist and she said, "Tell them I don't believe they exist." I burst out laughing as my therapist was very small and the idea of my saying, "My therapist told me to tell you she doesn't believe you exist" to this group and their imagined reaction of "jumping her" in anger, the whole silliness of the scenario, like a cartoon, just tickled me and the group disappeared.
Next time the three we's get arguing, get in there with "We are not amused!" and assert yourself instead of just yelling at them. Show yourself you are in charge and not them, take control of the situation. Did you watch the Harry Potter movies? Do the Riddikulus spell on the three?

Thanks Perna! And yes I'm quite familiar with the Harry Potter spells. I do assert myself, but the last time was just terrifying. They each had their own idea of how we should be feeling and reacting to a situation. Eg, 1 wanted to cut, 1 wanted to die, the other wanted to run. Add a loud authorotative condescending voice repeatin how worthless you are, and it's a real scary bowl of fruitloops.I guess the reason I raised this topic so long after my last episode is, I fear that I encouraged them by always referring to myself as 'we'. I think I caused it somehow. They only emerge during a really bad episode, so they've been very quiet for a long time now. (thank God) once again thanks for taking the time to respond, it's appreciated.XOXO

Dismiss them, name them the "CDR Trio" and sneer at them. They can want whatever they want but you aren't having it. As far as the "worthless" voice, notice that critical voices have very little vocabulary, no "facts" to back up their statements. Just think of one thing, one good thought you had about another or something you accomplished (went to therapy, went to school, figured out how to access PC with your cell (I don't know how to do that), made this post asking for help rather than allowing any of the CDR Trio to take control, etc.) and the "worthless" is null and void.
I see you have 1,715 posts; surely most of them were in response to another, to help another (and, if it is only playing in the games forum; other people need "partners" to play games and it is worthwhile helping another (or one's self) relax!) to respond to, listen to another? Even if all your posts are about you, you are trying to help you become more healthy! A worthwhile goal. Tell the condescending a*(h@le that "Everybody knows you cannot be worthless while pursuing a worthwhile goal!" Pour on the sarcasm, see how he likes it; I think he'll be real quick at shutting up ![]()
