Trying to make this short...I am as many of you know over 3 months behind on my house payment as I am using my whole income on my medical care....Anyhow..health or house....health must win out...So I called them as some dude left a message....he was not able to take the call..I just wanted to be polite and add a stall....so this lady takes the call. LONG story short ....minus many key details but she's making odd comments like have a garage sale.,.....and "well you have electric I hear your TV" in a snotty voice....just the whole call was a nightmare she was way mean. I was sobbing she took a check over phone cause she has my checking info BUT I told her I do NOT have the funds ..she just said GET IT by the 28th....I said I doubt I can get over $1000.00 ..(that's 1 month) that I would put a stop on the check....Also she badged me on very personal issues.....I know you can ask bill collectors not to call you..I do not want to deal with this bullying and abuse again ...do mortgage companies count ?????????? I know I am gonna lose the house.....I just don't care at this point...After I got off the phone..I thought I should have asked her why someone would want to buy the garage hehe...but all in all this was just so abusive...like I said I didn't type it all out Thanks

Wow. That is one person taking their job a bit TOO seriously and forgetting that people are human beings with feelings!

(((( CANDERS )))) Thanks exactly she was way out there..and her tone of voice..trust me I am very tough skinned and deal with bill collectors way too much but no body ever acted like this....and it's not like food, medicine and electric are luxury items...she named all them....Had she thought about this she would have realized I am by contract to keep the dwelling up...which means you cannot let the pipes break from no heat and all.......She was just horrible and had to right to just do a check by phone without my ok I think I will be the felon

Let me tell you I would be escalating to a supervisor pretty damn quick.

I would also relay to your bank that she put a check through without your explicit permission as well. Just in case she takes it upon herself to put through other ones.

Find out the general manager in the area, you should be able to just call and request this information and they should give it to you.

They have laws to follow too and the type of activity she has done I would question as to whether she followed these laws as well.

Thanks (((Rainbowzz))) I may be having to do that but I don't think her supervisor cares cause she said my supervisor just oked no check by phone fee...I KEPT saying I don't want to do this its illegal I do not have the funds in the bank...I don't know how to get above her immediate supervisors head cause they cloak and dagger there...like you call an extention and its not the person who called you ...it was really bad

Wow!! Wot else can anyone say?? Dayuuum, there are some rude barstewards in this world hey?? I have written to all the people I owe money to and told them wot my situation is regarding no money and blah blah coz i am off sick, they are generally very understanding if you write in advance to let them know wots happening or not!! Hehe, yeah sell the garage but take out all electrical installations.... light bulbs and blah blah!! Biggest huggles and dont forget to write your letters honey!!!

((Tracylee)) thank you...yes I did notify all creditors but here some don't care....she even knew I had had surgery a while ago and had that in her file...I think maybe she was having a bad day..but I wish she could spend a week in my shoes..I had no heat but space heaters part of the winter and all and she takes HER bad day out on me..

Thanks again LMO I am just stunned and cannot go into all the detail but it was abusive and weird...she was like throwing her personal life at me ...it was ODD....I really am good with dealing with firm asserive people...heck even abusive but this....this was way out there........

I am a bill collector. I work for a collections attorney.
First, let me suggest you do stop payment on the check because no doubt they will try and cash your check on the 28th. And if you know right now you will not have it, that is one fee from your bank you can avoid.

I will tell you, it is not uncommon for bill collectors to suggest having a garage sale, or trying to ask what type of assets you have in order to recoup their client's monies.
Although, she doesn't sound like she is a first party collector from your mortgage company. It does sound to me as if she is third party , perhaps hired from the mtg company.
If you are certain you cannot keep your house and it is about to go into foreclosure...then see about either doing a refinance to save it or put it up on the market.
You can also call your mortgage company and ask about a forbearance period with you only pay the interest.

I know how difficult this situation is for you. But, it is in your best interest to take action.

I know bill collectors can be blunt and seem abusive to some. Unfortunately, we are not customer service reps and our only goal is to reclaim our clients monies.

I can so relate to you. The bill collectors can be so horrible to speak to.....I know I am in dept up to my eyes. I have had medical bills since 1994 that haven't been paid......then during that time, my husband would put things on the credit cards that we had when we were both working engineers with an income over $100,000/year. We are now both without our engineering careers never to go back to it either.

They are all so mean, rude, & plane nasty. I have gotten to the point where the bills come in & I just put them into a pile. Luckily the only phone # they have is our home phone. I have gotten to the point where I have disconnected my home phone (only used for my husbands internet connection now). When it is connected, all I get are calls from bill collectors. I won't even answer that phone anymore......& would delete every call from my answer machine.

I know for me that everytime I would actually answer their calls, I would be so stressed after it I couldn't function......even listening to them on the answer machine stresses me....but the feeling of being able to delete them helps in a very strange way. Listening to the person you talked to would have really set my anxiety & stress off really bad too.

I agree with twisted soul to stop the payment on that check.....no need to have a charge for insufficient funds from your bank when you know the money won't be there. I have been lucky in that the only bills I have been able to keep up with are my first & second on my home, the utilities, & insurance payments on my cars & above all, my $900/month on my migraine med. Eating takes last place just above the not paying any medical or credit card bills (which are years past due).

If we didn't feel stress, anxiety, or depression before this, there is no way we could avoid those feelings when dealing with the jerks that are trying to collect. For some reason, they just don't understand the words......"there is no money!!!!!!!". Our survival is the most important thing & paying for the things we need to survive even cost more than the money that comes in for 1 month.

Your post really hit home when I read it.......realizing how similar you sound to what I am going through too.

I hope that things can go more smoothly for you....you don't need this stress on top of everything else. If it is possible to refinance to lower the payment....might be a possible help, but I am guessing if you are like me, the money just isn't there.......lower payment or not.

I'm so terribly sorry this happened to you. It's hard enough to be having money troubles, without having such a stressful phone call with a bill collector. ((((Sleeps)))))) I hope you can write the company a letter and report the rude behavior of the collector - they don't need to behave in this fashion to perform their work. It's completely unprofessional. And wrong. I also like the idea of stopping the check, so you won't incur a bad-check charge, since the funds aren't there.

I'm just so sorry this happened....I send my caring thoughts your way, and I'm thinking of you. I hope your pets are giving you lots of TLC, and know that I'm sending you my good thoughts too! I wish there were more I could do.
