I have to create a wellness vision for a class I'm taking. It's meant to help me find my motivators to make changes in my life, but all it seems to do is underscore how badly I've failed in life without giving me any hope that I can fix things at this late date.

IowaFarmGal no worries. i know that whenever i create a list of things i need to do (like a wellness program) it depresses me. it is overwhelming to do that to yourself. the best advice i can give is follow your heart from one thing to the next, stick close to what you love be them hobbies or whatever. i don't agree with making up some vision, i think it's too much pressure and easy to feel cooked before you start.

I feel the same way about that kind of thing.
What are you taking a class for? That's a positive thing to do, what motivated you to do it?

I was advised during counselling to make a afive year plan and set goals to follow to get where I want to be. I cannot think one week ahead, let alone five years. Instead of trying to do a fiv eyar plan, I am trying to make plans for the time period I feel most comfortable with and hopefully I can work up to longer goals. Sometimes we should start ssmaller but don't tell yourself that it has to be exactly what they want you to do. Start where you feel most comfortable at and go from there. If you feel it is easier to find motivation for one specific small task then begin there.
Keep me informed, please. I could learn from this myself. It sounds interesting. |

The webinars are based on a book about changing thinking patterns that are holding you back. It is focused on healthy eating and exercise, but I think the concepts are helpful for rebuilding your life apart from the weightloss aspect. They are very positive guys, but that's kind of an alien concept for me. I keep taking their classes hoping something will stick. I continue to have trouble with the wellness vision. It's meant to give me a direction to move in, an idea of the person I would like to be. My thinking is so ferociously negative though, that it sounds like a lie to me. There is no timeline on the vision. You set 3 month goals that move you in the direction of the vision and small achievable weekly goals to move you in the direction of the 3 month goals. I know I can do it except I just keep shutting down. But I keep going back and beating my head against the thinking shifts. I know they would be a good thing and there's no hurry except the fact that I'm in my late fifties and I'm afraid I may die of old age before I finally get it. I have another class in half an hour.
