Do they help? I mean, not like the suicidal ones but when you really feel like you need support...what do they say? And what are some good ones if anyone has had any experience. I honestly have no one to talk to (best friend disappeared on me about a month ago because he has a lot of mental problems and I can't seem to get him to contact me in any form
![]() ![]() ![]() Apparently two T appts and a 40 minutes phone call with him tonight over the past 2 days isn't enough. This is completely ridiculous. |

USA NATIONAL Suicide & Crisis Hotlines - When You Feel You Can't Go On... Call a Suicide Hotline. / SuicideHotlines.com - Direction for immediate crisis intervention for the gravely suicidal & treatment for major clinical suicidal depression.
I just tried to get into the site above's chat room, to ask if the hotline were an option to not only those who are idealizing suicide but also to those who are really struggling. Unfortunately, their web chat is open 2 p.m. - 2 a.m. EST. I was too late. ![]() I have called this hotline before myself. The person that I spoke with was very kind ~ they listened to my gripes & worries. They did recommend that I call my T the next day for an appointment ASAP, and asked if they could call me back the next day (to see how I was feeling). I didn't mind them calling to check on me...that was a comfort to me at that time. I would say that my experience with them was very positive. I hope that you call if you're really feeling stuck. It really is a terrific resource! ![]()

i've a phobia of phones, and because of that, all the helplines i contact have to be my email
i contact samaritans- who are very helpful, but they take ages to respond to my emails.. so i also write to 1 in dublin which are more quicker at responding to my messages, but arn't really as focussed on serious issues. i don't trust them as much... even though with that one, you know who you're talking too- it's only a small team |

shattered sanity,
You may want to check out the website that I put in above. They do have online "chat staff" from 2 p.m.- 2 a.m. EST. I don't know how to convert the times to Dublin time...but, maybe you're awake during that time period when you need someone to talk with? ![]()

I don't like phones but have rung Samaritans sometimes and found them helpful. You don't have to be in a state of crisis to ring a helpline, they're there for anyone who needs.

I have my local/regional help line numbers in my phone. I haven't actually called them; when I'm in crisis I either call a friend, turn to my partner, go to a support meeting (hundreds of those here), or if it's bad enough, go to the hospital emergency room. If I had to, though, I would call.

I dont like talking on the phone much either, esp to a stranger. The problem with me is when I get really bad panic attacks its usually in the middle of the nite, so I dont want to disturb my family or friends.

I used to be really shy years before I was ever even depressed (like before and into the first years of college)...now that I have gotten older (into my 30s) I have found it is easier to speak up and say what I need or ask for what I want in general, including having to use the phone...I don't really like calling strangers, but it's not like I knew who I was talking to, so why not, I guess. I know where you are coming from, though, completely. I used to be unable to call and order takeout or call and ask a store how late they were open, I was too scared. ![]() |
