Mom is worse. It's her heart. I am afraid she's not going to make it.

She made it through the night. They greatly increased her shots of diuretics and she lost 6 pounds of fluids overnight and today. She is breathing better.

I am to be her physical therapist this weekend and New Year's Day. She can't really stand up, much less walk. She's got to be a lot better before she goes home. I can't lift on her.

Thank you for all the prayers and good wishes, everyone. They are greatly appreciated.

I just imagined it was my Mom in your Mom's situation and I felt the terror of it. I wish with all my might your Mom will be OK.

What's the latest on your mom, Hon?

Yeah, how is she today??

They got her up and she walked a tiny bit today and then literally collapsed. Her heart rythms are all out of whack and no one really knows why.

She needed a breathing treatment and I noticed that she wasn't doing it right. So, I showed her how to do it and breathed in and out with her. It worked! Her breathing became better and we think the infection is breaking up some. That is very good news!

I've asked that the Dr. write an order for handles that go around her potty at home so she can help me get her up and for a shower chair. I can't lift Mom or my chest injury will pop open again. The staff said they will see that the orders are written.

So, things are looking a bit better!

Man, LMo, if reincarnation is true, I must have been a really, really bad person the last trip around. Whew!

I'm actually terrified of taking care of my Mom. Believe me, I'm no altruistic, wonderful person doing this. I'm a scared person who hopes I can survive it without my mental and physical health completely going.

It will just have to work somehow.

Thank you, Sparkling. It is very frightening. She was so sick when I was growing up that we became quite used to almost losing her every year. While it terrified us each time, it happened so regularly that we were somehow prepared. She's done so well for such a long time that it's all very new and frightening.

I've been meaning to tell you how much I like your maple leaf. I am especially fond of maple trees and leaves.

Mom was able to sit in a recliner for a while today. She still can't walk, but it's a start. They are going to start more intensive physical therapy on Tues.

The kidney specialist told us there is no damage there. She said Mom's heart isn't working right and the fluid is backing up more than the kidneys can remove. That part was a huge relief.

I even made Mom smile today. That's the first one since Christmas Eve.

My friend Tammy is letting me borrow a computer and we're going to get it hooked up before Mom comes home so I can be online. I'm going to make arrangements with Mom's friend to sit with her so I can keep my Dr's appts. I have some issues that just won't wait.

So, I think things are going very well, all things considered. I ask for prayers, good thoughts, etc., that my health will hold out so I can take care of Mom and of course for continued prayers, good thoughts, energy, etc. for Mom. Some good energy that Mom and I can do this without fighting will be a big help, too.

oh January. im just reading all this now and im so sorry all of you had to go through this. at this time of year of all times! my breath caught with fear for you both and im so glad your mom is doing a bit better. im sending all the positive thoughts i can to you and will keep you both in my thoughts. hang in there and congratulate and treat yourself for handling this!
