Hi, I'm new. My name is Jean and I'am 28, married, have 3 kids. I'm thinking I have bipolar, and I feel like I really don't have anyone to talk to.
When I talk about it, I'm told to get over it, or not to worry about. I guess I wished it was that easy, cause easy has'nt been my experience and I'm sure not anyone else' eitheir. I'm looking forward to being a member. Sincerely, Jean |

Hi there, welcome to the forum(s)
![]() I am Bipolar-II(mild) and would suggest for you to be certain is to take it up with a mental health professional, self-analyzing, and just perhaps, reading about it, will not get you the right diagnose, if there really is a problem. Today so many people are tempted to self analyze and self diagnose, which can create more stress for a person. Also there are so many disorders, and symptoms can be similar but do not mean a person has one in particular, even the DSM-IV can be slightly off at times, I myslef would first go for a physical and then be sure to rule out anything like hormonal imbalances, thyroid disorder, diabetes, Lyme's disease, etc. Then if things are fine, seek a mental health professional, maybe even starting with a psychologist first, who may refer you to a psychiatrist if necessary. Though hard, try not to get too upset, and if things turn out that you are Bipolar or have an other disorder(s) there are medications with talk therapy that can help put you on track. Fell free to come here and post anytime, and even try to log on to "chat", there are lot of terrific members here to talk with ![]() DE In giving advice seek to help, not please your friend SOLON

Hi TJC and welcome. This is a good place to talk about it with people who understand. You might also try to find a local support group to attend for people with depression and bipolar. Being around people you can talk to can be helpful.
For those telling you to get over it, it would benefit them and you to learn more about the illness. I have a paper to start with at ![]() -- The world is what we make of it -- -- Dave -- <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.idexter.com>http://www.idexter.com</A>

It's a beautiful place though. I hope you find all the help and support you're looking for here, and I know you'll meet some very warm and caring people here. They are the best! "Beep", is a great guy, and I am happy to know someone with my "disorder", oops! I'd prefer to just think as it as being different, my daddy always told me "be different, don't try to be like everyone else", guess genetics helped him teach me and prove to him and myself, "I am different", ha!ha!
Just wanted to add, I just hate when people do not know what we are going through, or know nothing about this disorder and say "snap out of it", etc. Duh, if we had control 100% none of us would choose to feel the way we do at times, though I do not care to need a med to be "balanced" I am grateful there are things that can help me and others get on with things, so, hey, realize meds. can be a Godsend. Don't let anyone who is anti-meds talk you out of the possibilities in life meds can make for you ![]() Okay, I just yacked more and maybe things you already know and/or do not want to hear, ha!ha! As you get to know me, you'll understand, I really do not want to be a pain in the butt to anyone, just try to help. Glad you stopped here ![]() DE In giving advice seek to help, not please your friend SOLON

Hello and welcome
![]() Remember you cannot know what you have unless you've been diagnosed with a doctor. Self diagnosis isn't a good thing.. because then you could dwell on it and think that you have this and that and it could be something very different. Sundance, I appreciate your concern and I know the possibilty of it being somthing else. I grew up with a bipolar mom, and my brother died a year ago, from suicide. My brother and I were similar in the ways that we acted with mood swings. He was cycling very fast before he past away. He was a social worker himself and refused to recieve help. I know it is up to me to change the course and to get help, I don't want my children to grow up the same way I did. So even though I have heard not to search out what it can be, doesn't change the fact of how I feel. All I know is I need someone that can relate right now the depression is just to much for me. I have been to the doctor, he told me it sounds like bipolar, but I want a therapist to make that diagnosis. When I was little I remeber wishing that one day I would find happiness, and I'm going to. I appreciate everyones support !

I'm sorry about your brother.
And actually alot of disorders such as bipolar, anxiety, depression etc goes on through family members. I know with my family both my mom and grandma suffered anxiety, my mom not anymore but my grandma is an agroaphobic. Also my mom's uncle has anxiety and depression I believe, and my cousin suffers from anxiety and ADD, so it definatly run in the family. Yes it is up to you to get help, if that's what you feel will help you. Getting diagnosed and getting treated is definatly a plus, but it's gotta be something you want to do. I am not bipolar but I do suffer from clinical depression and others. Hang in there hon. and take care of yourself. <font color=red>~Sundance~</font color=red> <font color=blue>"Never react emotionally to criticism. I again, Jean.
I agree with most of your reply, but I think sundance is right : you need to see more than a physician, maybe a psychiatrist. You seem to understand most of your difficulties, but if your brother commited suicide and your mom is bipolar, I would'nt hesitate to consultate. I'm no doctor, but this would be my advice. Sincerely, Starbuck Born in 1963 of French mom and Canadian dad. Studied and worked (Majors in History, Theology. M.A. in Sociology).
