I was hospitalized last year for my psyche problems once last year for 7 days. And once the year before for 5 days. The first time for Suicidal thoughts and the 2nd time for Suicidal thoughts and Homicidal thoughts. I feel totally bug nuts because I have been hospitalized twice in 2013 and 2014. I'm afraid my mental illness is getting worse and I'm gonna be in there a lot more this year.

Hi, Welcome to Psych Central (PC). Here at PC there are many caring people that help each other.

You might want to revisit with your psychiatrist to discuss the possible need to revise medication options for diminishing symptoms.

The forums are a way to share your story and also read other people's stories and share with them as well.

Some people find a therapist helps them talk through some of the roots their challenges stem from.

If you wish to chat privately or just have a question, feel free to private message me or other Community Liasons (left click on the name to the left of the post you want to private message, select Send Private Message)

Thanks for sharing your story.

Hello Angelwngs25, welcome to Psych Central.

I know it can feel bad to end up in hospital but try and remember that hospital is a safe place where you can get stable again. You had a couple of short visits, this does not mean that it will happen again in the future and even if it does happen, it means you will get the treatment you need. See if you can get an appointment with your psychiatrist if you feel your mental health is getting worse, this may be an indication that an adjustment to medication is needed or psychotherapy.

The 2nd time I was hospitalized I was brushing my teeth and I swallow toothpaste on accident and puked and my roommate told the nurses and they thought I was trying to kill Myself or something. Which really missed me off.

I was in the hospital more times than I can even count between 1995 & 2003....& haven't been in since. Things have changed my my life & the situation I was living in & it has made all the difference in the world as to my well being. We never really know what the future holds & what changes can happen that will make all the difference in our life.

Only you can tell what is really going on inside your thoughts...but it's better to be honest & be safe than it is to let it go & not be safe. Know being in the hospital doesn't feel great, but sometimes it's the safest place we can be at the time.

I have been in the psych ward twice because of suicidal thinking...didn't think I could keep myself from acting on it. Sometimes I do feel like its something I'd get judged for and such but I try and keep in mind it was actually the responsible thing for my health and nothing to be ashamed of, acting on those thoughts would be worse.

I am not certain I will never need to be hospitalized again, in fact I kind of figure it will happen...but I try not to worry about it and just keep it in my mind as a back up plan if the suicidal ideation gets stuck in my head again. Just keep in mind you aren't a lesser person because of any of that.

Hello! Being in the hospital is nothing to be ashamed of. It just means you needed help, and there's nothing wrong with that. I have been hospitalized four times, and three of those times were over the past summer. The people who matter don't judge me for that, and know that I was just getting the help I need.

I wish you the best.

I was hospitalized 14 times and tried many medications, over about a decade. But when I got the diagnosis of Dissociative Disorder and a good therapist helped me discover my Inner Child problems I was able to start working on myself, learned how to help my inner child instead of fighting it. I never had to go to the hospital again.

Please don't judge yourself. If you had a physical problem and had to go to the hospital several times, or many, you wouldn't judge yourself, would you? You would just find out all you could about your condition and do what you need to do. Have patience and compassion for yourself and find out all you can about what is hurting.

I will even admit that i regard the hospital staff as my most valued "family" as they cared so much more than my real family ever did, and have always been there for me. That's the way I really feel and don't feel a bit ashamed about it.

Nothing bad about that. I have been admitted more times than I can count...I just know it's in the higher double digits. Never feel bad for seeking/getting help.
As far as the dorky roommate...any staff would know you can't die from swallowing toothpaste..sounds like she was having issues that had nothing to do with you.
If you ever get admitted again, you got to remember when the other patients start stuff, it's usually something going within themselves and better to just ignore it.

No, it isn't bad. I'm another one who has been admitted a lot. My last stay was years ago.

If you ever have to return I suggest that you keep to yourself.

Being in the hospital is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, I have been in numerous times for psychotic symptoms, other times for suicidal thoughts. Just remember you are there to get better, it's nothing to be ashamed of at all, nor to judge yourself by.

Hi Angelwings... Welcome to PC.

I'm another person with multiple psych admissions, including a couple of 3-month stays, one of which was in a state hospital. Even people in the state hospital were regular people, most of whom wouldn't hurt anyone other than themselves. I've also been in a crisis stabilization house several times and in day treatment.

It's been several years since the last time I was hospitalized. There is hope. There is a huge chance you will stabilize. There are so many more treatment options available now than when alot of us had multiple admissions, so HAVE HOPE.

I also want to add that I've had over twenty non-psych admissions and I don't consider the psych admissions any differently than the non-psych.

Like others, I absolutely don't feel it's bad that you've been in a psych hospital twice. It's better to get intensive treatment when you need it than to flounder on your own.

I've been in the psych hospital numerous times due to severe depression, and odds are I'll be there again. I don't like it there, but at least it's a safe place where you get (or are supposed to get) special attention.

like i said before, there is nothing wrong with getting help for yourself, even if it means a hospital stay. i remember in the 1980's the hospitals were pretty bad but now a days things are so much different and patients are treated so much better.
