Hiya people,

I'm very new to this and I was just wondering whether you
could advise me on my problem.

About 2 yrs ago now, I suffered from a small number of panic attacks. I havent actually had a full blown panic attack since then but in all this time I still worry about having them. I get on with my life as normal and try forget about my fear but still to this day I worry about having them and often feel slightly anxious because of it.

Should i just continue to forget about the panic attacks (as suggested by the doctors ) or seek further advice ??

Thank you

Hi Mike,

You mentioned that you haven't had a full blown panic attack for two years. Have you had smaller ones?

As a person with Panic Disorder, I know panic attacks are almost impossible to forget and the anxiety waiting for the next one to hit is also almost impossible to control without professional help.

I suggest you talk to a psychiatrist about your situation.

I wish you the very best,

January

Try and not focus on them, but certainly talking to a therapist might help lessen them even more. Perhaps there are certain situations that are triggering you, and working through that could help a lot.

thanks alot for your help guys.

for the past year or so I have not
had the physical symptoms but when
I worry about certain things sometimes, like for instance
driving on the motorway.
It triggers my worries of panicking and then once its in my head I feel like I have gone back to square one and I begin worrying in alot of situations.

I have read some of these sites where people ask for money as they have a way of getting rid of panic. Are they worth buying or are they just a rip off ?

Thanks everyone

Mike,

Go to a professional psychologist and a professional psychiatrist. They can help you.

It has also been awhile since I have had a full blown panic attack, but I have had periods of high anxiety where I was scared of an attack. And then times where I just plain worry about them coming on…That is part of my anxiety disorder. For me just forgetting about them does not work. I once read something along the lines of trying to intentionally forget about pink elephants will make you think of pink elephants all the time. I am not sure if that makes sense to you, but what it means to me is the more I try to forget about my panic/anxiety, the more it pops into my mind.

What I have done to deal with it is talk about it in therapy. Come up with ways to resolve the anxiety—its sounds like you are already on the path of that by yourself. Maybe a little professional help could help you overcome the worry or dread of future attacks. I know it has helped me.
