Beyond fibro, I have been having trouble with my right hip to the point that I'm back on a cane.

Xray, EMG, MRI, and now bone scan all normal for my hips. I went for the bone scan yesterday. I missed my docs call tonight by 5 minutes looks like i might have an answer! to go over results so hopefully we will connect tomorrow.

They did ask me if my feet hurt and I kept saying no because I'm concentrating on my right hip, but I have been having trouble with my right heel for a year now. Apparently something must have shown up.

So I went to my PCP today for the annual physical and I unloaded all over her. She looked at where the pain is and said she thinks it is my ilio-sacral joint going out of alignment. That's why when I go to the chiro and massage therapist it feels good for a few hours until I start walking again.

She also looked at my feet after I told her about the bone scan and she said I am moderately flat footed. So, she thinks I may have plantar fasciitis. This would explain that my foot hurts I walk funny, throws the ilio-sacral joint out of wack and there's the hip pain. Sounds like this could be it!

So I am going to a podiatrist next Wednesday and then she wrote me a scrip for physical therapy. The only thing that was a little disturbing is that I wear only Earth Shoes (the kind from the 70's). They have a negative heel and they help my legs and back (or did). The shoes cost like $100 a piece and over the last couple of years I have gotten rid of all other shoes but those. She started to say it may be the shoes. If it is, we got a big problem!

So, keep your fingers crossed that this is what's wrong with me because it should be able to be fixed. At least with the fibro I can still walk. And so I can keep my shoes looks like i might have an answer!

The hip bone connected to the heal bone looks like i might have an answer!

Amazing how one thing can affect another....

I used to wear earth shoes too until they started raising havoc with my achilles tendon. Oh my, how I would be in agony all the way up to behind my knee when that was bothered. Swelling, pain, couldn't walk, threw my hips out and my back. Now I have to wear heal inserts so the tendon stays quiet.....gosh it stinks getting older! LOL

Hoping all goes well and that your problems are relatively minor or at the very least, easy to fix!

Wishing you well!

i don't know your hip and heel pain history and I'm sorry you have such pain.

have they looked at your back? I ask because I had a bulging disk in my back that was causing me pain in my back, groin, hip, thigh, calf, and heel. Sometimes all at once and sometimes not. I got that mostly cleared up with ibuprophen (anti-inflammatory).

I have recurrent sciatica and have researched and wonder if it is periformis.

Anyway, more food for thought.

I hope they find what is causing your pain so they can provide you with relief!

I've had plantar fasciitis, and had to wear padding and tape on my feet for that, but I learned to relieve it by stretching out my Achilles' tendons while I was still in bed, by bending my feet and holding them up. Earth shoes would do the same thing, only all the time you wear them. Maybe they aggravate a back or hip problem, but I think they would only be helpful for plantar fasciitis.

I hope you don't have to buy all new shoes. I used to love my Earth shoes. Now, they are too narrow for me.

Echoes, have you tried stretching your hamstrings to relieve periformis pain? I went to physical therapy for my back, and they gave me more exercises, but the most important was stretching my legs by lying on my back, raising one leg at a time, and gently holding the hamstring stretch (back of the thigh). I know it might seem counterintuitive because the periformis is in the lower back.

I used to hold each stretch for 20 seconds and repeat 4 times with each leg, and do that twice a day.

Hi Echoes - they did rule out all back issues which is a good thing - I just want to know what it is so I can fix it!

Thanks - yes if they tell me to get rid of my Earth shoes they will have to think of something else - I can't afford to replace them! I'm glad you think they are helpful for the heal issue because I saw varying opinions when I googled it!

It is amazing how different problems can cause other problems....& we don't even think about it at the time.

I had blown out my anterior cruciate ligament in my knee & went with it getting worse for 5 years before having to have a surgery. Limping on that knee made other parts of my body hurt, like my hips & back. After I had my knee reconstructed, my orthopedic surgeon made sure I went through 6 months of serious PT (needed 3 months of PT just to walk again).

Those 3 months I was on crutches & couldn't put any weight on that leg (that was the way it was done 20 years ago)....but after I was able to walk again, he insisted that I work on not limping because it would cause damage & pain to my other leg mess up my back if I.

Then about 5 years ago, I fractured my hip when I was goofing around on my horse. I didn't know that it was fractured for several months while I was waiting for the pain to go away....talk about limping.....I was trying to show my dogs at that time, & that pain caused other pains in other parts of my body because I couldn't walk correct.

I hope these discoverys will be the answer to your pains.....it definitely makes sense.....when we favor some part of our body to keep it from hurting, we put stresses on other parts & cause that to become painful.

Take care,
Debbie

With plantar fasciitis, I didn't have a heel problem; it was the rest of my feet - sorry to complicate things in relation to Earth shoes. They were good for me because the thick part of the sole supported the rest of my foot, but not the heel.
