One last word from me.
I understand your stress ... been there, done that. One lesson I've learned is that, adjusting and living through the uncertainty of change in an organization is what makes many succeed.

It sounds to me like, the organization you're working for is exactly going through that incertainly of change. It creates a tremendous amount of financial stress, personnel changes, and it certainly is uncertain if the changes they are making will produce results at the end. BUT, they are certainly trying by taking the risk of introducing new products to the market. That means to me they are still in the battlefield, and for those who stick around the victory will be shared. I would stick around if you think you have what it takes to live in an uncertain future. I think the pay-off, (regardless of the outcome for the company), will be to your benefit. This is why:

1- If the company doesn't make it, you will have accrued senority, and that give you a more solid resume. Plus being aligible for some financial benefits.

2- If the company makes it, your logalty will be recognized for sticking to them even at difficult times.

You are at a win-win situation, IF you have the tolerance to deal with the uncertainly of change.

Good luck

Again, thanks for all of the support I've gotten. It makes a tense situation a little easier to deal with.

It looks like I'll be keeping my job, for awhile anyway. My boss spoke to his boss , and the feeling is that with us being an ISO9000 company, mine is a critical position and one they can't do without. They would pretty much have to be looking to go out of business to close out my job. But, if sales don't increase a great deal over the next year, that's exactly what may happen. So, I'll keep working hard, and do my best to help the company be successful, but at the same time I feel like I have to keep my eyes and ears open for other opportunities. God, I feel like I've dodged yet another bullet.

All I really want is a job where I can go to work everyday (well, except for vacations and holidays), work hard, be part of a team, feel good about what I do, and then when it's time, retire and spend the rest of my life hanging out with my wife.

Is that asking too much? When did life become so damned complicated?

Greg

Greg, that's wonderful news! It does sound like the prudent course of action is to keep looking for something else, but at least you can look with a job, instead of having to just find a paycheck.

It seems that the current business model is constant and unrelenting insecurity for employees. I don't know what business genius decided that was a good way to get people to perform.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

*hugs*
Jo

That is great.

You can still look for an alternative, gain more experience with this place, and maybe this will be a long stint at this company, but at least you'll have some choices.

It is no longer "panic time" the worst time to try to make decisions or emergency plans.

Bptoo,
I completely agree with you. I wonder everyday why life has to be so complicated. Wouldn't things in the world be so much easier if people could just get jobs, work five days a week for 50 something years, then retire and have fun with the ones we love.
My town has a lot of old factories in it that were booming in the 50's and 60's. My town was prospering and almost everyone had a job because of them or on the railroad that picked up from the factories. Today not one of them is around anymore and all that remains is a shell of a building. That makes me sad. I never realized why that had to happen.
