Will y'all please send thoughts and prayers to my 3 month old grandson, Johnathon?

He got a bad virus going around (from me) and seemed to be doing fine. No fever for three days, etc. Today he started back with increased symptoms, a forced cough and fever is back...indicative of secondary infection. And though I don't think he's too dehydrated, he's not been eating and wetting his diapers as normal. They're not dry, but say normal is 10 and dehydrated is 0, he's about a 5/6.

The pharmacist said this virus going around is causing MANY children to get pneumonia, so I'm concerned.

To top it off, my daughter now has it too with fever and bad cough. She's going to wait to be seen tomorrow.

I'll let you know what they say at the hospital as soon as they call me. I sent hubby with them because I couldn't go. Freaking I feel helpless. He's so small to be sick Freaking

Thank you so much,

KD

Children are resilient. My grandson was listless even after meds and then "suddenly" perked up at the last hour :-)

Hoping you get good news from the doctors and Johnathon will "perk up" rather than decline.

Thank you so much!

Ok, they've registered him and the nurse checked his lungs and said his lower sound clear to her, and that it sounds like it's all in the upper airway (respiratory tract), so that's good!

YAYAYAY so far!

Thank you honey. Freaking

He's just been so pitiful today...wanting to lay, not eating enough, wanting to continually doze. He's so quick to smile normally and talk and he won't smile hardly at all, when he tries to coo he's so hoarse and pitiful. This just all started today...he seemed to be fighting the virus fine. That's how these things can happen. Freaking

Sending out my prayers over the airwaves to you and Jonathan and daughter.

Gosh it stinks so much when little ones are sick and can't tell you what is wrong. I completely understand that helpless feeling hon....but you are not helpless, you give him all the love a grammie could ever give. He knows that and he loves you back!

Special thoughts go out to you, Johnathon and your daughter. Freaking We will all pray for you and your family as I know how helpless a mother can feel when your children are sick. I feel your pain as when my son was 5 he caught pneumonia while we were at Universal Studios and had to get back home to go to the hospital. I know you are strong and will do what mommy's do best and that is just to cuddle and be there for them.

Freaking Freaking Angels will watch over them and keep them safe.

Hi KD,
I'm sorry he's sick. You worry about those little ones, that's for sure.

Out here on the west coast they've had all kinds of news stories about the adenovirus. It hits hard once, seems to go away, then comes back again even harder. It's still a virus so all one can do is treat the symptoms.

It is important to keep him hydrated. Good thing to count on little guys. You are correct, that one must watch out for secondary infections that do require treatment.

Knowing what I know of you KD, you would never miss the boat in caring for your "peeps." If he were my 3 mo. old, I would be rest assured that he is in great hands -- yours!

I'm praying for all of you!
Best,
Okie

((((((((((((((((((( everyone )))))))))))))))))

Thank you.

They're home. They put him through you know what to help him but they're home.

They can't give him anything to help because he's so small. We have to use a cool mist humidifier, saline mist and they did give him some nose drops but he can use those three days tops.

They were amazed. Freaking They attempted to aspirate some of the phlegm and nothing. They used a mechanical for infants and still nothing but he was so full. They got one for a larger child and the doctor couldn't believe what came out of his little upper respiratory tract. Freaking She said it's so thick and that's not good, but so much too. He does sound much clearer and is sleeping from exhaustion.

She said to watch his fluids and he must see his pediatrician tomorrow...tues at the latest, but to come back to ER for anything.

He is showing some signs of infection, but they want to wait and see on that and I guess that's why the Ped. is to keep a close eye.

Poor baby. Daughter just cried and cried when she told me what they put him through but she's relieved with the outcome.

Thank you honey.

We may be going right back out. he seemed better when getting home for about 1/2 hour.

his temp started going up fast...gave tylenol at 102.6. his cough is changing rapidly to sounding like croupe (sp?). it's going to be an all nighter here and we may be going back out at any time.

he's so small to be so sick Freaking

Love y'all.

We have to meet the Ped. at their office when it opens at 8 a.m. Daughter just talked with her on the phone just now.

He had tylenol an hour ago and it only dropped it 2/10's of a degree down to 102.4. They said we (due to his weight now) could give him .02 more of the tylenol. We did, so we'll see.

Dr. said with a fever like that he's going to be weak and lethargic when daughter told her of her concerns there...especially considering he's only 3 months. She said if his cough gets worse like he's having more trouble with airway to get to ER.

Even though we're offering him a couple of ounces of formula every couple of hours, he's not always taking much of it and in five hours had a barely wet diaper, so there's real concern with this fever continuing.

I just finished my watch with him...daughter HAD to sleep some. She's sick as a danged dog with it too, and she's going to have to do alot tomorrow with dr's, etc., while I deal with little man and help too. I think I'm going to have her go back to sleep though because she's got to have it, and I can nap tomorrow. I know I won't be able to sleep anyhow.

Thank you so much for the thoughts and prayers and I'll let you know what Ped says.

Love,

KD
