((((((((( chalm )))))))))

I didn't see your post here until 10:30 and I put the show on. Was your house shown early on in the show? If so, I missed it 48 hours

It was quite a show, from what I did see about it. I know so many are still reeling from the storm, just like you. Know that I send you lots of love and strength.

Hi Chalm,
It really is amazing to me to hear you talk about your experiences from your perspective. I've been studying it from the perspective of FEMA, First Responder, etc. and how we all screwed up so badly. I'm so sorry we have to learn at your expense. And, I'm sorry I missed the show.

Love to you,
Okie

((((Wright)))) Thanks for the hug.

I didnt watch the program, but I know it was suppose to be about the Mangano's, the owners of St. Rita's Housing. It's a very sad story what happened there, when it could have been stopped. All they had to do was bus them out. The buses offered had a/c and were set up to handle the elderly.

My grandfather was in a home in St. Bernard during a few storms. We never evacuated, but the home he was at always called days ahead to know of our plans. If the storm was even threaten our coast they bussed the entire home my grandfather was in. They were taken up to Baton Rouge once and Jackson, Miss another time.

I was wondering if they talked at all in the show about the MRGO. The MRGO is a manmade canal called the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet. It was built back in the late 50's i think and for years the people of St. Bernard and New Orleans East have been tring to get it closed down and filled in. It not only flooded us, but its killed off alot of our wetlands. Mixing the saltwater with the freshwater. According to our local paper here the MRGO is no closed. But, just two days ago i saw a ship down there while going over the green bridge.

Around here we have a saying, 'No More MRGO'.

((((((((Sabby)))))) and ((((Echoes)))))))) Thanks so much

I didnt see it, so i'm not sure if my house was on it. If they showed anything about the Murphy Oil Spill area, theres a good chance my house was on there.

Yeah, it's third world down here. But, we rebuilding. Slowly, but surely. I actually took a ride out to Waveland, Miss and went over the brand new Bay Bridge into Pass Christian and Gulfport. They look alot like we do. Except for them, the buildings and houses are already knocked down and out of the way. By us, they sit and rot. I was talked into bringing my camera on this trip for a specific reason. The reason didnt happen, but i did pull it out and shot a little footage. Not much and mostly of bayou and a parade. But, after i edit it, I'll post it here so you guys can see how the Mississippi Gulf Coast is looking.

((((((((Okie)))))))))))). I tell ya one thing, when i left early that sunday morning I knew it wasnt going to be good. I, just like everyone else figured yeah, a little water. Ya know, some water from street flooding. A foot at the most. But, no one. Not anyone i know at least, expected what did happen.

My anger and frustrations are from the President down to our local parish president. I have had my quarrels with fema, sba, LRA, Red Cross, COE. You name it i'm pissed. I'm trying now at working out that anger and frustration. Notthing can be done about it now. So, why be mad.

I enjoy more telling people about the thousands that have come down here to help us gut and rebuild. I wear a green bandana almost every day in honor of some great kids. The label on the bandana reads National Civilian Community Corps from Charleston. Did you know that the first outsiders to reach St Bernard Parish and help in rescuing was the Canadian Search and Rescue Team? They left Canada before the storm even hit. When they got here all outside help was in the city of New Orleans. They were told by a Louisiana State Trooper that the parish of St Bernard needs help. No one has gotten to them yet. This was on Wednesday after the storm. The Canadian Search and Rescue made it here and they stayed for months. They've come back to visit and were honored royally by the residents of this parish.

There is this one man I remember. We were down at home gutting the house. I guess i was in shock still. Remember only bits and pieces of life since then. I just stared and said yeah alot. But this man, Ronald, was his name. He was with a Baptist Church out of Alabama. They were in the parking lot with their truck feeding hot meals to anyone who was hungry. We ended up there cause that was where the first aid station was. My dad slit his arm open and needed stitches. When he came out of the tent we walked over to the big white truck. Ronald. He fed us. He sat on the tailgate of the truck with us and talked about his grandchildren and his wife. He had a great sense of humor. Before we left to go do some more gutting at the house. Ronald asked us if we would pray with him. We honored his wish. I stood there and watched three grown men cry along with me. Becuase someone was there and someone cared.

Okie, if there is a vcr tape of the show here. I can copy and send to you too.

It has been a month your ticker says...how are you feeling physically???

Moggles went down to louisiana with a group to rebuild for a week...he cleaned up a lot during that time and he has been so destructive since helping ...

i prayed and prayed for everyone there since I had lived in Baton Rouge for 2 yrs as a teen and they were the best from what i remember...if i could physically or financially, it is one disaster i would help with...

i am sending good wishes and prayers your way!! melanie

(((((((mrsmoggles))))))(((((moggles)))))))))

thank ya'll both. Ya'll ever come down to 'da parish, let me know. I'll hook ya up with some good food. and give ya a real tour of the true St Bernard.

Physically. I'm okay. I get some aches and pains. but probably from just being clumsy and walking into things or over things.

I tell ya, prayers and the thoughts are what makes us all feel good down here. So, please do keep sending them.

thank you,
chalmette
