See if the site FAQ helps?

http://forums.psychcentral.com/faq.php

Most people join a place like Photobucket http://photobucket.com/ and upload their pictures there. You have to have pictures on the Web somewhere, with their own address; your own site or a storage site like Photobucket.

If it's an image you've found online, rather than one you want to upload from your computer, you don't need a photobucket account - just take the url from the picture and put around it.

So, Would become

I don't have a photobucket account, but I'm assuming you'll get a link with each picture? If so, just put that link between the tags.

I have tried to import a photo into this photo gallery which was done successfully, and when requesting to change the photo I have, I select the photo I wish to use. Then, when I click on change...it brings me to a box of anime avatars. I don't want those for my avatar I want my photo for my avatar.

Ah, avatars are different...

If it's a picture on your computer you want to have as your avatar, you need to check the box saying "Upload your avatar". Click "browse..." and find the picture you want, then press "change". If it's coming up as anime avatars, it's probably because the box you have checked at the moment is "Use a stock avatar".

It's not "polite" to post URL's from other people's sites as that's "bandwidth stealing". Some people have to pay for space to store their graphics and when you post it here, we get to see it but it does nothing for the person whose photo it actually is except cost them money, sometimes "extra" money as everytime it's looked at/referred to, no matter from where, a little cash register at their server :-) where they store it charges them for that use.

Many sites where one might have a free account and upload pictures won't show the picture anywhere except on that site, it can't be shown elsewhere, because of that.

Don't feel bad. Lots of people do it and lots of sites don't mind (or they'd make it difficult). Most people don't know about bandwidth and some of the details of how the Internet "works". It use to be worse several years ago because things were just beginning so how to charge for stuff and how it was put together and "size" of things was more important. Now with faster machines and more storage space, cheaper, etc. it's not as big a deal.

Also, there are guidelines for the size of pic we should limit ourselves to, for posting, because so many have dial up and it takes forever etc...

just like putting "video" in a regular thread subject line, if there is one in the post.
