Hi all,

I'm in massachusetts. A gallon of gas is $3.25 for regular. Whats

the price in your area? Just wondering? I heard California is at

$4.25...?

Does anyone else get overly depressed about the economic

situation in this country?......There predicting $5.00 a gallon

by mid-summer...any thoughts on the situation?

Its about 3.10 here for regular, unfortunatly my Acura is a premium-only car so I am paying 3.29. The gas issue is complex and has many causes, demand in China and India have risen dramatically in the last 3 years, Amercians are still driving cars that are bloated, overweight, overpowered and ill-suited in many cases to actual need, environmentalists have cut off refinery construction and so on. Recessions are unavoidable so the best thing people can do is to cut expenses, pay down debt and wait it out.

Of course replacing the current, idiotic income, FICA and payroll, Capital gains taxes with a national sales tax would lead to a tremendous economic boom and would be far better in the long run for the American people, if you are interested in learning more details, locate Fair Tax on google.

We're paying $3.15 in NoVA. If we continue to pay that much for gas then they'll keep raising the price. The only way they'll ever lower it is if they have to and Americans haven't cut down on the gasoline usage.

That being said, we just filled up our tank for the first time since we bought our car (almost a month ago)for $22. It was down to 1/4 of a tank when we filled it. Gotta love drivin' a hybrid. Gasoline......

I need to find an alternate way to heat my home. Oil is out of this world. My husband rides a moped in good weather 34 miles a day. Last summer he saved over 2,000. I try to arrange my trips for one day. It hasn't worked well with arranging P.T. and other appointments. I drive a little Geo Prizm and I do try to be thrifty. It is so difficult now though.

Let's face it with increased world demand, and a finite oil supply (many experts have said we've now passed peak capacity) oil and gas prices are only going to go higher. North America is going to seriously have to adjust it's car habits to be much smaller, more in line with European models where gas prices have always been higher, develop alternate fuel sources and put more money into public transit. I have a high fuel efficiency car, but I'm noticing the price increases too - my next car which hopefully won't be for many years, will definitely be a hybrid.

I'm with you wisewoman....the cost of propane to heat my house & water....is killing me. Almost $900/month.. As soon as I get the refi of my house in California I have a company that is going to replace this gas furance with a heat pump system & I am going to get an electric water heater installed. The heat pump only uses the propane when the temp gets so low that the electric doesn't work.....so basically the propane is never used except in emergencies....changing over to electric with pay for itself very quickly at the high price of the propane. They have been kind & are allowing me to pay it at a lower monthly.

I honestly don't know what people are going to do when they absolutely can't afford the gas because at this rate....that day will come

....I don't drive that much anymore...only go out when I absolutely have to to get something. Right now, gasoline for the regular is around $3.15. When it was $3.12, I was going to wait until it went down to under $3.10....oops....it went the other way & was over $3.20.

I honestly don't know what people are going to do when they just can't afford to pay the prices.....that day will come at this rate....I guess we will buy a tank of gas & then only drive & wear really warm clothing in the winter rather than heat our homes....go back to using the fireplace

When I studdied economics in college for my degree in accounting.....there was the explaination of damand but they didn't take into consideration Greed & manipulation for the hightest profit they can get.

It is sad that we have not looked into the alternative forms of energy before now & even now, we are not progressing as we should with coming up with an answer that works.....we are going to have to in the future.

Car companies have not bothered out of relationships with oil companies. We do have technology to be much more efficient. (US) Why did my 1976 Honda Civic get 45 miles per gallon? UNLEADED Why have gas formulations changed to be less efficient? Many people here have pellet furnaces to do the whole hot water and heating thing. Pellets are sawdust capsules made in Canada. They cost between 213.00 per ton and 180.00 per ton. They are made in factories. So, it is obviously very much less expensive then gas, oil etc. But, here is the question. How are these factories run? Are they dependent on oil? Probably so we are right back where we started from. I have friends who have a solar and wind business. They install windmills and solar panels. I don't get why people here object to windmills. They say they ruin the view. Excuse me, power lines are really ugly and people love to hit those poles so they are dangerous too. I just don't understand why we complain about windmills unless those who complain are in bed with oil companies. We have to change our entire way of living to eating local, no imports, carpooling and public transit. People here still don't get it. Yankee independence. Within a mile of me I believe there are at least 6 people who go to the same town each day with similar shifts. Maybe we all have to sacrifice a little convenience and wait for rides and hang out a bit so we can carpool. Walk to the grocery and buy what you need while you wait. I don't see that happening here anytime soon. We are much too independent and greedy. Too bad as it is a serious help. People here are also still mainly driving suvs siting safety. It is more safe because of other suvs. if we all started driving smaller cars it would be more safe to drive them.

In the late 70's early 80's I saw people driving smaller efficient cars. My husband and I used to make a game out of keeping score on trips. The efficient cars had it but not now. sorry so long winded.

It fluctuates here between $3.29 and $3.59 or so.

Tallahassee, Florida.

I have an 04' Honda Civic and could not be better blessed with a fuel efficient car. I drive 37 miles round trip to work everyday. So, it takes me $3.29-$3.49 a day just to get to work! I still have an old GMC 4x4 too because I need a truck for hauling. I live on the coast but it's 22 miles to the nicest beach.

I was just thinking I'd spend the $500.00 to put an above ground pool in the back yard. The truck gets 19 miles to the gallon so, to go to the beach one time would cost me nearly $8.00 at current gas prices and I can only imagine if it were higher. The truck is strictly for hauling hay, trash, and farm stuff.

I think it makes us realize how much "waste" we permit. Glad to see it making me slow down in a way. But the drive to work cost does stink.

My next car (when the Honda Dies) will be a Honda Hybrid - without a doubt!

I heard that companies like Exxon receive huge amounts of tax dollars to offset the expense of exploration, but our domestic oil companies have not been drilling new sources for over 10 years, if I heard correctly.

Congress and the Senate don't seem to be doing anything positive -- just trying to ensure they get re-elected.

there is a record amount of inventory of gasoline in the US right now. that should be driving the price down not up.anyone who doesnt think that prices are being manipulated is naive in my opinion.

Thanks ((((everyone)))) for your input!! I hate the high gas

prices to Gasoline.........I Don't Go very far and do alot of work at

home. The things thats gets me is that its hurting the price of

our food, so now food is going up to. Costing more to ship to

your local market.

So I go out to the market, to the doctors, I take my mom to the

doctors. But as far as going anywhere else forget it.

Its too bad that we couldn't all boycott the oil companies but \

you know that wouldn't be practical. But Believe me its come to

My mind....thanks for your responses....Ziggy

Gasoline is bought for the "future" so they pay X price which may be higher or lower than what it is now and when it gets time to use that gasoline, the price fluctuates according to the X price they paid back then when they bought it as well as what is happening now both in the world and in the country one is living in. That's why there are different prices at different brands and locations, etc. Too, there are state taxes on gasoline and many states tax higher than others.

Look at California taxes for example; that's why their price is higher than other states' prices (compare them to Texas): http://www.energy.ca.gov/gasoline/st...tate_2002.html

You guys are complaining! You should check out the prices in the rest of the world! Oh, but of course, US citizens should get a break given the investment that the govt. has made in its middle east investments etc etc etc.

I was appalled to see about 1 in every 3 vehicles being an SUV or equivalent. If you want to drive a gas guzzler then I'm sorry but I don't have sympathy for the gas prices you pay.

If only corn oil could power cars... The mixed (and conflicted) interests of the corn lobby and the oil lobby could fight it out and eventually reach equilibrium.

Shame cars can't run on corn syrup (bet it powers better than it tastes)

Sigh.

We have the technology for alternatives...
But with about 5 of the top 10 businesses in the US relying on oil (somehow or other) for their huge profits...

Well...

What do you expect???

Yes Alexandra Us citizens should get a break given the Billions
of dollars spent I agree!!!!

All the money being spent over there could be used over here no doubt....! But that could lead to so many other discussions to.

But thanks for your input...
