I'll be a devil's advocate (or is it just a devil?): define hypocrisy. I have some ideas, but I want to hear other people's. Try to be very precise, people.
![]() And think about why you "hate" it...

something i think everone has stumbled with at one time or another - the opposite of sincerity.
i don't hate it, except i strongly dislike the fraud aspect. but if it's acting as if you are okay, when if fact you are not, in order to pass through your day at work, or through many days, or situations, all the while hoping inside yourself that while you say one thing, you may temp. feel another, but your having the intention is to line up your belief inside with the actions and face wear outside to others in order to function... that resistance to cave-in to your illness, at all costs because if you can just get through today, you have lived to survive another day, in spite of the hypocrisy surrounding your beliefs about yourself vs. your actions - at the time. actually, this behavior is involved with alot of healing aspects of certain mental illnesses ... especially ones we feel safer to hide. this is how I view it personally. politically, the responsibility is too great, for so many people, and it just doesn't wash well with me. peace, nightbird

I'm triggered by hypocrisy. To me it is the same as lying. Lying triggers strong feelings of mistrust, anger and fear. (All stems from my past)
My PTSD hypervigilance kicks in and I'm on high alert. I feel threatened and totally UNSAFE. When I feel unsafe I retreat and isolate. I feel confused. Lost. Betrayed. And worst of all, deceived. |

Of course. Think more on just exactly what it is that causes fear? What behavior in the other person? Try to be precise about it. Once the fear is lessened, think about what the behavior says about the other person... ![]() ![]()

Such a good discussion, talking about RELATIONSHIPS. It's tough to declare hypocrisy, as that requires someone knowing another quite well, and also requires judging. It's not worth it to me. I think many people with mental disorders could be consider hypocrites, if another doesn't care to understand, don't you think? I agree, it's really not about them when you consider them to be hypocrites, but it's all about why "you" need to put them in that place.
