Not sure where to put this since we don't have an anger/frustration/pissed off forum. I am extremely aggrivated by sounds. Someone other than me typing on a keyboard. Someone eating noisily. The sound of certain people's voices when they talk a certain way... certain syllables or inflections. The birds chirping... it's natural so why does it piss me off? The sound of the chinchilla muinching on his wood house... again natural. Someone smacking on gum... other than me that is. Someone munching on their fingernails. The phone ringing when I don't want it to ring... and God almighty forbid that it's someone I don't want to talk to. And look the hell out if these things happen while I'm trying to sleep/take a nap... I get so freakin pissed off that I can just plain forget about sleep. I HATE being pissed off at the dumbest things. I'm not talking about irritation, I mean just plain, down right, good ole fashioned PISSED. What the hell is wrong with me? It has nothing to do with me quitting drinking... drinking makes it worse. So what is it? Natural part of bipolar disorder? Some twisted side effect of PTSD? My little brother is the same way, but not nearly to the same extend. He is ADID (attention deficit inattentive disorder) with out all my other frills. So what is it? It's God awfully annoying! And it has nothing to do with the people making these noises. It's all me.

It's not just you, believe me. I can think of a couple of sounds but the sound of a person chewing food just freaks-me-out.

i have a MAJOR problem with hearing ppl eating or cracking gum...also, another sound that brings about intense frustration for me is hearing someone cough countinuously. that was hard when my children or hubby got sick...believe me.

there are different sounds too that i will hear above all others at times...like they're hitting me each time i hear them. it's an awful angry feeling. for instance, if there's something in the dryer with a zipper on it and it's hitting the dryer wall...i get sooo upset. it's like i hear that sound and nothing else. ugh.

nope, you're not alone in that one. Sound sensitive?!?!?!?!?! let me know if you find a good coping skill to deal, k?

love,

Oh no Ryan. You're not the only one. I think we are all sensitive to sounds of some kind. It may be different for everyone, like I hate the sound of the vacuum next door. It's like slow torture having that high pitched whine in my ears for hours on end. Argh!!
I think the only coping skill I have is to distract myself with sound of my own. I put on my cd player and drown it out. Sound sensitive?!?!?!?!?!

I hate the way my mom's cat sounds when she's eating. The little crunch crunch crunch I hear about sends me over the edge. I also don't like hearing the neighbors T.V. as I'm going to sleep so I've taken to wearing my headset to sleep in which at 3:00 in the morning and you roll over and have an ear thing hit you in the eye doesn't make me really happy but anyway.....I don't think you are alone in being sound sensitive.

Hubby used to cough all the time....allllll the time. It's a side effect of his meds. My dad also coughs all the time...side effect of meds. IT MAKES ME NUTS! Most days, I get a headache as soon as they start. I feel bad though because it's not their fault.

Hubby too Mucinex for a week or so and the coughing is so much better. Dad...not so much...its gotten so bad he will choke and pass out for a few seconds...the doc is working on figuring out why.

some people's breathing pisses me off.. and people talking slowly Sound sensitive?!?!?!?!?! i just get SO pissed and don't feel like talking with them at all anymore.
i had a golden retriever staying here (i took care of him now and then), he smacked his mouth, it drove me crazy!!! He like licked his paws very slowly and at the end of every smack his teeth clacked together, OMG i felt like killing the dog!
then of course mice gnawing stuff, and them running in the wheel, then stopping, running a little, stopping again.. and so on...
Sound sensitive?!?!?!?!?!

oh yeah! and music from the neighbour or just quiet music. So it's like u can hear noise and u know it's music, but you can't really tell what song it is and u certainly can't hear the lyrics. It gets me SO mad! If i hear it i HAVE to TRY to hear what it is (and keep hearing), but i can't, it's sooooooo frustrating....

Oh me too. Sometimes I just want to yell "everyone just shut up for a minute!" because I get really rattled in crowds due to the noise.

Oh, I should say that I'm usually PMSing at those times. Sound sensitive?!?!?!?!?!

But I wish I could tell you about this woman sitting next to me at a play the other day. OMG! She was doing something with her finger and her teeth the ENTIRE second act! It was really really disgusting.

No PMSing with her. Just wanted to, ooops, dump my coffee on her.

sigh

I always have to fight when my ex is on the computer. She has every right to type anything she wants. I hate feeling like I want to cover the birds when it's hours before their bedtime. I hate wanting to take away the Chinchilla's little wood house cause he's gnawing on it. Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to anger management I go.

Oh yeah... every little sound drives me crazy sometimes. Some mornings when I wake up, any sound, even soft sounds, feel like explosions in my ears. Some of my biggest dislikes:

My father-in-law whistling under his breath
My step-daughter singing the same line in a loop, like a broken record, out of tune (she has asperger's and ADD)
My daughters digging through their box of duplos (large legos)
Fingernails on a chalkboard
Chewing or slurping or lip smacking
Dogs barking
Lawn mowers and other power equipment
slamming car doors
Any music out of tune

Sometimes the stupidest little things can push me over the edge. Some of it is PTSD, some of it is just because I am highly sensitive.

I'm pretty sensitive too Obsids. I guess that's why I get so damn pissed off at these silly things. That's why my ex got so angry with me when we were together, althought bless her heart she did everything in her power to understand. But oh well... therapy will be my cure all... I hope.

LOL the kissing on T.V. why must they make so much noise? When I kiss someone it doesn't sound like I'm sucking them down my throat. I hate that!!

My hubby snores so damn loud that I want to smack him right out of a sound sleep. I hate people that crack their gum, people that eat with their mouth open or when talking. I hate the exhaust fan in the bathroom. Fire alarms send me over the edge and large trucks. OMG, this list is endless. I cant stand the way the newscasters talk on the news, always so annoying. I keep the volume down on my comp cause the sounds people use for their IM's drives me up the wall.

Your not alone........
