We had to put my 20 year old dog down on Friday. It was extremely hard. Before he left I held him and kissed him repeatively and gave him hugs. He would then rub his head back on my chest like he was giving me a hug too. He was kissing me all over. We burried him with my other dog so that he won't be lonely. We cremated my other dog. My other dog died the day before my birthday. I sure miss my dogs right now. His colar is on the table right now and it smells like him. I'm thinking about sleeping with it tonight. He sure lived along life and was fighting to stay alive. He had a torn ac in his knee. They told us that if we fixed it, he may die and that if we manged his pain he could like for many years. He lived for 5 more years after that. He couldn't see at all at night in his latest days. He kept running into walls and couldn't hold his blatter no more. Sorry I thought if I wrote this I would beable to sleep tonight besides thinking about how much i miss him. He was a good dog and will always be loved.

My animal friends have been closer to me in many ways than any of my human friends. They ask less yet accept all of me, no qualifications.

When one of my animal friends pass, I have human friends who understand--& we say nothing but cry together. I have mostly human friends who don't have a clue.

Isn't it wonderful to have this place where so many get it?

I'm very glad, Xeneon, that you are telling us about you & your friend. It means so much to me to have this glimpse into what was clearly a beautiful, rich, two-way friendship. What a blessing!

Crying's okay. Good for the blood pressure. You know Rainbow Bridge? If not, bing it (or google, if that's what you do).

Oh Xeneon--I am so glad to hear that. When I was grieving over the death of my 3 bunnies and the euthanasia of my uncle's dog (which I had to do) I was beside myself with grief and did not know how to get over it all. None of my friends were animals lovers and only one of my sisters was but even she got tired of me venting. I was a basket case. Even quit my job because I was in a mental meltdown. I don't remember how I found the site but it really did help me a lot. I even talked to a pet loss grief counselor. (but I had to pay for that) I hope your sadness will lessen eventually. You are not alone. ((((Hugs))) T

I am sorry about your loss... I lost my best friend (my dog) this year too and it was extremely hard. My parents decided to put him down the day before my birthday because he was going blind and he was extremely aggressive; no one could touch him any more, not even to take him out for a walk. I miss him dearly as I never got the chance to say good bye to him. I got his body from the place where they put him down and we cremated him, I have his ashes next to my bed. I hope you are able to heal soon.
Thanks for this!

I'm preparing for my dogs eventual passing. I'm so sorry for you. I think that's amazing btw that your dog lived for 20 years.

I am so incredibly sorry for your loss, and I unfortunately relate to you to an extremity right now - the hurt of such a deep, fresh wound. My 14 year old, sick cat went missing on Friday, the same day yours was put down. Due to her condition my family is almost positive she went to die. What's been helping for me is thinking about all the good times we had together. It may still make you cry, I know it does me - but it's better than the complete sorrow. And you're right, your precious angel is in a better place. There's no more pain. May he rest in peace.

My doxie just had her 10th birthday this month. i honestly don't know what i'd do without her. 20 years is a long time for any dog. it must be so hard to grow up and live with a loving, caring friend for so long and then to be without them so suddenly. hugs. have you thought about later on getting another dog? not to replace the one you lost of course, but as a new friend to help get you through this hard time? sending hugs and love ♥

(((((((((((((((Xeneon))))))))))))

I have gone through this with my first two dogs. My 13 year old was very sick and beyond human aid, and my 10 year old went the same way. Both times I got to be with them when they were put to sleep. I still cry and miss them, but I remember more and more the joy and laughter we shared.

Reading your shares about the loss of your dog helps me to know that it is a grieving process. It's not over all at once. Dogs are so special and give such unconditional love. I have so much to learn from them.

Sorry I am so late posting I just found this section.

We put our sweet cat Domino down six months ago. She was 19 years old. People keep telling us to get another cat but when I go looking for one I find I am still trying to find her. Every cat I have had came to me. When the time is right I believe that will happen again. I am so sorry for your loss but I am glad you experienced so much love with your pet.
