I've read many gut wrenching horror stories, so I know this is pretty minor. But I'm still angry and can't decide what to do.
I picked my dog up from the groomers yesterday. Everything seemed normal...the only thing out of the ordinary was that the groomer was holding my dog. I figured he was just being spoiled. ![]() When I got home, I went to get him and saw blood spots all over his blanket. I got him inside and checked him over. 4 of his nails had been quicked. I know it happens and I've done it myself and his nails are black...but 4 of them!?! I'm furious that the groomer didn't mention it. I feel lied to and tricked. If she had informed me I would have taken precautions to make sure the bleeding stayed stopped...just like I did when I treated him myself when I got home. My husband just wants me to calm down and try to blow it off because my dog is fine physically. (but I'm sure he will remember this next time his nails are done!) And honestly nothing the groomer can say or do will make me feel any differently. Am I just spoiled by my last groomer? Does crap like this happen? She moved out of state last year and I never realised how lucky I was. The only issue I had with her was one time she rushed to me in near tears when I came to pick him up. Nearly gave me a heart attack!! I thought something awful had happened. She was terrified that I'd be pissed because my dog squirmed and she buzzed a stripe up his forehead. ![]() |

I don't blame you for being upset. She should have at least told you about it.

I'm with Gayle on this. She should have told you, especially since they were still bleeding. Can you talk to the groomer about it?

thanks!
I did end up calling her. she tried denying it and then tried excusing it. She offered to do his next grooming free of charge, but I have serious trust issues with her now. If she had just told me what happened maybe I would have questioned her nail trimming abilities but now I'm questioning her ethics instead. Time for a new groomer. |

Yep, I defiantly wouldn't go back. Sadly that's quite typical of both vets and groomers. Since the quick of a dog's nail is so close to the end, they can only cut a small amount without cutting the quick. Most owners aren't satisfied with that (They want the nails cut short) so they will cut it much too short and then just stop the bleeding (Which is odd that your groomer didn't do) not all vets/groomer do this, but a lot do.

thanks so much DogTrainingLove. I can't believe that it's typical. wow! I miss my old groomer even more now.
My dog is a poodle so he's at the groomers pretty often and I had no idea. This groomer did use some styptic to stop the bleeding as I found a few little clumps of it on his crate blanket and he definitely wasn't bleeding when put him in. I guess he did some digging to fluff up his blanket and started bleeding again from that. |
