I am so very glad I found these forums because I am now able to ask questions like this that I have always been too embarrased to ever bring up in the past. Every day I wake up with a completely different amount of confidence, energy/motivation, and attentiveness/alertness. I find that some days I am very social and will make conversation with anybody about anything. Then, some days I might feel nervous or awkward around people, even people that I know well, including my immediate family!!! I don't like this at all and wish I knew how to stop it. On my good days I am very motivated and am able to get a lot done and pay good attention in my classes. On my worse days I find myself zoning out alot and even avoiding confrontation with other people. If it was only every once in a while it wouldn't be something that bothered me. But, my mood is different every day and there is no reason I can figure why. I get enough sleep every night and have even tried eating healthier. I'm in shape, still young (20), and dont take drugs or drink very much at all. I don't know if this is a problem or if some people are just like this and deal with it. I have just spilled my guts on something that has been a problem to me for an embarrasibgly long time. If anybody out there can tell me if this is normal or not I would appreciate it more than you can imagine. Thanx

Welcome Colin You never mentioned if you had any sort of dignoses. I would suggest you see your doctor and look into your mood swings. You asked is it was normal? Yes for a lot of people it is all thay know to be normal. What is normal anyway? I don't think there is such a thing. Hun, I have bipolar and I never know from one day to the next what i'm going to be like. Or as I like to call it, who will wake up tomorrow. The happy me, the sad me, the angry me ect. Many mood disorders can exibite similar simptums so it is very important you get properly dignosed. I can say on thing though, when you discribed how you feel, it was like you were discribing me. Good Luck Jacqui :-)) |

Thanx for the help. I don't have any diagnosis and this is the first time I have seeked advice about this. I have never even considered the possibilty of bipolar and it came as a shock to me that there is a chance of that. I don't know if the test things on this website are accurate at all but I took the one for bipolar and I scored a 40, which meant moderate/severe mania. The only doctor I have is my physician. Should I ask him about this or do I need to make an appointment somewhere else to look into my mood swings? I feel very lost and confused about this because I have no clue which steps to take and am embarrased to bring it up to my parents because I know they will tell me im overreacting and to just forget about it. I know how they are and won't accept the fact that something might be different about me. In other words, they won't be any help and will just discourage me from taking action about this. Thanx for the advice again Jacqui.

I'm happy to hear your willing to seek help or advice from a professional. Your best bet is to begin with your physician but don't stop there. Sometimes people give up to easy just because a doctor says it knowthing. Only you know your body and mind. Hopefully your doctor will be helpfull and you can find your answers to you problems no matter what they may be. So you took the bipolar test. Thats good but do remember, thoughs simptums can show up in other problems or illnesses so keep an open mind. As for your parents, family is hard at the best of times. If there is an illness or a problem you have its their problem too and in time thay will learn to deal. Let me know how things go hun Take care Jacqui |
