I have been told that I may have a personality disorder which translates into poor life coping skills.

Can anyone shed some light on this subject? How do I improve my life coping skills after years of physical/emotional abuse as a child, numerous family deaths.....and transitions in life?

therapy.

therapy is probably your best bet. would give you the chance to talk about all that crap that has happened in your life. a therapist could help you work towards... whatever you want :-)

Pilatus,
Actually, some of your coping mechanisms were probably
developed because they did work during your early years
when you had to protect and fend for yourself. However,
those same coping skills don't always serve you well later
in life. There are many great books on BPD, if that is your
diagnosis, which will help you identify behaviors that now
are causing you problems. I've learned that when I'm unhappy over people, places or things, if I can see where
I am the problem then I can make changes. If everyone
else is the problem...there is no hope for happiness.
Raging, blaming others and substance abuse are common
signs of BPD. I strongly encourage serious therapy and self-help books on the subject.

Wanted to reply yesterday but being new and all hit my 5 per day limit.

The author of "I hate you don't leave me" has an updated book - I read it once - being unofficially diagnosed it didn't seem to help so I ended up throwing it out

But I thinked it helped with my journey - it may help you in understanding?

The title is "Sometimes I act Crazy : Living with Borderline Personality Disorder"

Hope this helps.
