I was scared when I first joined this group, possibly bc I am having a hard time coping with this but I have been reading posts constantly and have realized you are all here to help and support and to never judge. I feel comfortable sharing now. I am the type to fight once I know what is going on, in most aspects of my life anyway. I believe knowledge is power so therefore have been researching borderline. I came across alot of info which has been helpful along with an article of how a relationship evolves with a borderline. WOW, talk about reading your life story. Is there a way to get passed this borderline disoder or am I and all those who care about me doomed? I have just reached the end of my rope. I know I was not right. I have felt like that my entire life so I decided to get help and im trying but see no change in my behaviors, thinking.. nothing except the feelings of "help me" and "its useless"

I'm glad that you were able to post and realize that people here try hard to support everyone else...

I've read some books too and wow your right "life story".

What kind of help did you decide on or are getting?

I'm glad to hear you are working with a therapist...AA can be helpful for some...if you haven't tried it then it might be worth a visit or two...don't you think?

I am glad that you are comfortable here. I agree - people are here to help (or to get help), and not to judge you. Anything that you struggle with, someone else here probably does too.

Do you have a therapist? One thing that you need in order to get past problems like what are often involved in someone who has borderline personality disorder is someone who can keep you focused and moving in the right direction, and help you to step back and see your behaviors and thinking for what they really are. It sounds like you are seeing that now, but it takes help to keep seeing it, and to keep looking at it objectively when you get a little further down the road, and all you really want to do is fall back on the ways that you have tried to cope before, because you can't see around the corner and the helplessness and uselessness feelings seem like they are bigger than you are.

There are books that will help, and having a support group, like this one (and real life support too) makes a difference. There is hope, and you can do this.

Oops, I didn't refresh the page before writing my reply, so didn't see the others here. I'm glad you are getting professional treatment. I also know what you mean about reading books and seeing your life story there.

i found reading this treatment manual really very helpful. i learned about a variety of treatment for BPD that has been shown to be effective, and the author also explains things in a way so that i could see what therapy was supposed to be about and even more importantly how therapy was supposed to help me.

it is expensive to buy but i really think it is the best book ever written on borderline personality disorder. it is well worth getting it from the library and photocopying it IMHO:

It gets better the more you learn about it and the more you work with a good therapist and learn to recognize difficult situations for you before they get too far out of control. I'm very proud so having to "back down" and recognize I've been wrong, or hurtful, or a bad situation has been mostly my fault, has never gone over well with me :-) but I have learned that doing things so others understand and are less unhappy with me has its own rewards and compensations.
