I was diagnosed with BPD late last year and have been going to DBT for about 13 weeks (actually Im supposed to be there right now, but Im playing hooky) Im just wondering if anyone has actually found it helpful????
Im finding that its just dredging up negative feelings and some of the suggested ways to cope are unrealistic and even make u feel worse.
Seriously considering quitting.
Just needed to vent.

Hi. I completed DBT classes about 2 years ago. It was lot of information to sort through and apply. I found looking at the handbook between classes and after completion was helpful. Can you talk to your instructor about how you are feeling? I can't honestly say that it was life changing for me. But it did give me some tools to cope just a tad better.

Good luck!

thanx mybestkids2. I haven't spoken to my group facilitators, but I have spoken to my individual therapist and she just didn't want to know
I've really tried implementing the skills but they don't come naturally, as u probably know.
The whole session seems to be spent talking about each others past experiences and im trying to forget what happened to me, not talk about it over coffee with complete strangers.
My therapist called me this afternoon to see why I hadn't turned up to group or individual therapy this week and was satisfied with a "cos i didn't feel like it"

I personally find it to be rather effective. Our group facilitator doesn't force us to talk about experiences if we don't want to, which is nice for those who prefer not to. It also teaches you a lot about where emotions come from and whatnot. I just started a few weeks ago, and we've started with emotion regulation which was exactly what I needed. I love the concept, personally.

I've decided to give DBT the benefit of the doubt, and try for s little longer.
I know that they are supposed to be 'dismissive' of destructive behaviour, but today, I confessed to the group that I have been drinking way too much lately, and the facilitators congratulated me on using my skills!!! WTF?!?!
Also, after a big speech that whatever we say in DBT stays in DBT, I said a few things about my individual T, and they ran straight and told her????
Is it just me that thinks this is wrong???

I think that's really wrong that they'd tell things you've said in group to your individual therapist if they have such a rule. Perhaps you should speak to the facilitator about that.
