Just when I see the finish line up ahead with that glorious banner that says

"You did it! You made it!" Break on through to the other side.

I stumble and fall. Bruised and battered.

Over and over and over again.

I'm tired of getting back up.

I'm mucking around in a puddle myself.

Maybe even though we fall and stumble and muck around in puddles, we do so in a more high quality way. I dunno.

Want to crawl into this life raft with me and others? The seagulls ate all the sandwiches but I think the flashlights still work.

Petunia,

I can understand your feelings. I also go through phases where I make good progress and then have a relapse. Try to remember that working toward healing is a gradual process, and it is not a straight line. We fall down along the way, but we never go back to where we were in the beginning. We get up and continue on. It probably sometimes feels like you just don't have the strength to do it anymore and you are at your limit. At times like those, try to be gentle with yourself. Accept that things have taken a temporary turn for the worse again, and use this time to increase your patience and self-nurturing activities. Don't scold or blame yourself for not having difficulty. Each person has their own pace for healing, and if you are healing from many different things, it will take time. What can you do for YOU right now?

Welcome to PC!

Don't scold or blame yourself--try to be gentle with yourself--increase your patience and self-nurturing activities

I hear you, appreciate your insight, agree with you 100% and I would give you this same advice and mean it with all the sincerity I could muster.

But...

I try and try and try some more to apply it to my healing but it is so hard. I go through the motions of cutting myself some slack and telling myself that I am doing the best I can. I intellectually "get it."

I do all the right things. Go through the self-care motions. Blah-blah-blah. I totally understand the hows and whys of the healing process but my head never connects it to my heart.

It's like someone singing the blues because they memorized the lyrics but they can't actually feel the soulful emotion of the music.

There is always that tug-- you should be over it by now--you need to get on with life--be productive--useful etc. etc. And I KNOW that voice is wrong but yet it remains, even though I tell it to shut the hell up. Finish Line

Sigh. Finish Line

Ok all that rain will help you grow.

Patience is learned. We are often more patient with others than we are with ourselves.

The thing is this: consistency works. When we are shown what works for us, and we apply it... maybe there will still be times when we go into flare, but the basics still apply.

Once we learn to do the right things (intellect) it's important to continue to do them, whether we see good results all the time or not. We would not quit doing what's right at that point, or we shouldn't.

I forget who had the siggy, or what exactly it said, but it goes something like, never doubt in the dark what we knew to be true in the light. That has helped me get through the flares.

We have to rely upon our "knowing" to help us continue going through those motions... we are better for the doing. (((hugs)))
