What is it with being triggered?

I just read a post in substance forum and right away triggered me and brought me back into the past. The emotions, smells, sights, etc came rushing back. I sat back and lost myself from the computer for a good 10 minutes.

All my fault. I always tend to read posts that trigger me. It could be just one word. I'm tired of it.

I need to go outside and smoke a cig now.

I've definitely been through being triggered like that too.

For awhile there I seemed to have some sort of screwed up ability to always be drawn to what was going to be most triggering. I don't anymore but it sure was difficult for awhile.

I myself had to take a break from some online interactions that seemed to bother me the most. I also had to choose wisely with anything else I did online, I might have to put some things on ignore simply because they trigger me.

At times I've also had to take a break from reading or viewing any traumatic material. I had to also learn to be really good to myself, cause I was still rough on myself, blamed and berated myself for everything imaginable.

Good therapy helped too eventually.
