If you're squimish, look away now!

I was recently prescribed risperidone, and i think it's caused me retrograde ejaculation. I'm not entirely certain if the medication is the cause, so i was wondering whether anybody could shed some light on the topic. Is retrograde ejaculation a possible side-effect of risperidone? i've read before only a number of antipsychotics cause it, and risperidone wasn't listed. Could this ejaculation issue be caused by something else, like a sexually transmitted disease or some sort of other infection, or do you think it is the medication?

I think the best info should come from your pdoc, pharmacist, and/or the actual prescribing doc.
Many people respond to meds differently.
To set your mind at ease, get an answer, contact the prescribing doc.
Hope all goes well for you,

DE

It's certainly noted in the literature. I can give you references if you want them.

Risperidone has potent alpha 1 adrenergic antagonist activity, and that can reduce sympathetic tone at the sphincters that control fluid flow in the male urinary tract. In other words, the valves that should be closed, don't close properly.

It's a pretty good reason to seek another medication.

I see.....so the valve which would normally prevent my semen from travelling up into my bladder isn't closed properly. So I'm cumming into my bladder - Nastiness.

Yes, that's what retrograde ejaculation means. It still feels okay, but there's no evidence.

Right well I'll use my review with the psychiatrist tomorrow to change the medication. And thanks by the way, for the information.

Well the psychiatrist has put me in seroquel now....BUT he hasn't lowered the risperidone dose at all. I wonder why? I meet him again in 1 month. Can anybody tell me if mixing two antipsychotics would be more or less effective than singular treatment

It would make sense to have changed medications, taking you off Risperadol. How much (dosage) are you getting?
I had the same problem with Abilify. I quit taking it for three days and returned to normal. I then continued the Abilify without incident. All the equipment is working fine.
