I am restarting mine in about a week. Doc maybe starting you on a high dose to kick start it in your system? I have always started on 25mg and gone up from there. I think it all comes down to how your feeling and what is best for you. I know for me it makes me VERY sleepy so when I have taken a larger dose it has always been at bedtime and a smaller dose during the day.

I have been on seroquel for over a year. I take it primarily for sleep but it has helped with my mood as well as it is a calmer for manic stages of bipolar. I started on 25mg and now i'm up to 450mg. It's a funny drug. It's hard to find the right dose. You really have to play around with it to see how much you need and when. For the first long while I was on it, I woke up with a hangover feeling for a long time. Personally, I find the later I sleep in, the more likely I am to wake up feeling groggy. Overall, the drug has really helped me and i've had very few side effects. I hope you feel better soon!

I think that is a good way too look at it ster. One day at a time. One thing I found when I started Seroquel is if I needed to lay down for a nap I did.

I find it hard to be on but also good to be on. It helps me sleep but when I have places I need to be in the morning I find it hard to wake up in time. But it has made me less sleepy as time has gone on. I used to be out like a light shortly after taking it. Sometimes I am sitting down and I catch myself sitting there with my mouth open or my eyes start closing. I was very funny when I first started taking it. No matter where I was I just had to lie down and sleep.

I have been on Seroquel 100 mg for over a year now. At first, I got the sleep-like-a-rock, wake up feeling full-on drunk with cotton in my skull for a few hours. After about 10 days, the side effects started to subside, and after about 3-4 weeks I was able to wake and function normally. I have never missed a single dose since being put on it (or any of my other meds).
Seroquel has kept me episode-free for 15 months (my dx is BP). Now I am able to function at 100% and think clearly, and the mania has been put out to pasture. But, since all meds affect everyone differently, this might not be the case for you. I was told it would take a good 4-6 weeks to feel the full benefits from Seroquel. I hope you can make it through the side effects long enough to give Seroquel a chance; it really has been a good med for me in my battle with BP (WAY better than Topomax). Kind Regards, Dolfin

I am on 50mp am and 25 mg at night. I was on 75mg at night but have been cutting down (with agreement of my GP). At the start of last week I cut down from 50 to 25 mg in am, and have ahd a difficult and emotional week. So I returned to the full dose on Thursday. Today I forgot all my am meds and I was so anxious, so jumpy. It surprised me and I know I wasn't thinking clearly or doing well at all. When I realised (mid afternoon) I took my meds. I felt better within an hour. Guess that proves to me I need this dose.

Did anyone have any weight gain with it?
I have been on it for a little over a month now, and I'm readng up on it and see the risk of weight gain is really high. That scares me.

I now am at the dose the pdoc wanted me at. 200 mg nite time and 25 mg one in the morning and one in the afternoon. It seems to have leveled out somewhat. Have very dry sinus but I handle that with nasel spray. I still a little fuzzy, but I dont feel like a rubber puppy that was only the first day. I dont know about the weightgain as I just started them. oh I dont feel any panic att. but still feel the presure in my chest a little unnerving but ok.

So if you watch what you eat (quantity and nature of food) you should be ok. Periodic monitoring of blood glucose is a very good idea, however, because the drug does predispose toward high blood sugar and diabetes.

ster,
I have been on seroquel for over a year now. My pdoc gives me his samples & I can use them as necessary for my PTSD that came from the trauma I went through last year with the ID theft & abuse that I caught the home care RN doing with my mother when she was dying of cancer. Initially, he had me on a different med (a benzo).....it had no effect on the nightmares, flashbacks, I the depersonalization experiences I was having. I had some left over seroquel from a previous prescription about a year before & decided to try it. I always try a small dose because of the horrible side effects I have with meds. The small dose didn't help at all, & even made matters worse because I would end up in the state between sleep & wake when most of the horrible nightmares hit. Since he gave me so many options for the med level, I kept increasing my night dose until it finally is working at 600mg at night. At that time, I was also suffering from anorexia from the nausea that I get from stress. I was medically hospitalized for almost 2 months last year being treated for anemia & malnutrition. He said that seroquel usually causes weight gain.....guess it does work some, since I am now stable around my lowest safe weight. During the day when I end up with anxiety attacks or have the depersonalization experiences, that is when I use a smaller dose. I will increase the amount if I feel it isn't helping. He basically has given me the freedom to use it as I need it. I hate using it if I don't need it, but at night....I have no choice. I still am bothered with nightmares & flashbacks from the trauma.. Last month when I saw my pdoc, he told me to have a blood test taken by my GP because long term use of seroquel can cause high colestoral & possible diabetes. That was when he told me that weight gain is usual with seroquel . I so badly want to stay thin that I just don't eat when I gain a few pounds just to keep the weight off. It is really sad for me when I can find a medication that actually works without all the horrible side effects I usually have.....then I have to worry about high colestoral or diabetes......nothing like having to take a med to correct what another med causes. I am sure if the blood test comes back bad, I will probably stop the seroquel rather than have to worry about that kind of side effect......but I don't know how I will be able to deal with the nightmares & flashbacks.....am praying that it hasn't had that kind of effect since I am keeping my weight very low anyway. I have had several times that I have been treated for anorexia as an effect to a med (prozac & wellbutrin) or from stress......so weight gain isn't something I even allow. I do find that in the morning, I can wake up groggy if I don't get a full 8 hours of sleep. I Friday when I had a horrible anxiety attack, I took a much higher dose of seroquel during the day. It really knocked me out. The main thing I have found with all meds is that if there is a strange side effect, I will end up with it. When I was on thorozine for anxiety, I ended up having an effect which was like having parkinson's disease. I was really scared because I quit the compozine for the nausea from my migraines because the dr's said that med can cause that side effect.....only it didn't go away until another Dr suggested that thorozine had the same possible side effect. It took over a month to get back to normal & during that time, I really thought it was permanent......very scarry when I couldn't even walk myself into the bathroom. The other thing is that everybody reacts to a different dose....it is something that personally needs to be adjusted. If you don't have time in your life to be drousy, seroquel might not be a good med unless you can make sure you get enough sleep. Then to top that off, each body can react differently to things like the possibility of having diabetes or high colestoral. You never know until you try......but it is important for your Dr to be responsible to keep track of how you are doing on it. Hope seroquel will work for you, but if it doesn't fit your life style, there may be another one that works for you, Debbie
