Ya you gotta take this medication twice a day, what did your pdoc say to do with it? If you take one in the morning and one before bed after about a week it should even out and over all you will feel its benefits. Taking double at one time can sometimes turn you more lathargic, but doesnt do much else.

doesn't it make you awfully sleepy? I am afraid to take it because it makes me fall asleep and afraid I will when I drive my car!

I take it - it made me so sleepy when I first started it I stayed in bed and slept. Once I got used to it, and it was at the therapeutic level in my system, the sleepiness went away. It's worth taking it long enough to get used to it ! I did start at nights only, then as I became less sleepy, my Doc added a morning dose. I have taken 1.5 mgs a day for 16 1/2 years - never had to increase it, and no panic attacks. Good luck !

Klonopin has a t 1/2 of over 20 hrs in over 90% of people, so you can take it once a day if you need to, but it will take longer (10 days instead of 6 or so) to get to a steady state in your bloodstream.

I have been on it for over 4 years. The doctor switched me to 3 mg at bedtime in hopes to help me sleep. Since the increase it doesn't do anything for me. Doesn't help me to sleep, calm down, or anything. It feels as if it is doing the reverse. I was even on it for restless legs and that is why the high dose in the evening. I think it has run out of umph for me. Trying to find out from pdoc what to do and no luck getting any response from her. Don't see her until December and will have fits big time if I don't get anything different for anxiety and sleep. Sorry I can't help you with it.

This is a problem I see alot with people who are taking long-scting benzos at night (like Klonopin, Valium). One of the problems is you have built up a tolerance to the medication, the second is you are slowly becoming stage 4 sleep deprived as Klonopin interferes with proper stage 4 sleep. You would be better off trying another med for RLS, and switching to something like Ambien for sleep. If you do this do not just stop taking your 3mg at night, but lower the dose and move it to about 3-4PM; slowly taper the Klonopin by about 1/2 mg every 2 weeks.

Woundedhearts - I also have restless leg syndrome really bad along with insomnia. Just 10 days ago my P-Doc upped me to 2 mgs. a day - with .5 in AM, and 1 1/2 mgs at bedtime to try and help with the sleep issue. BAD MOVE !!!! I was aggitated, in a foul mood, didnt sleep any better at all, and after 5 days, I went back to the 1 1/2 mgs a day I have been taking for over 16 1/2 years. No more aggitation, foul mood, but of course still not sleeping and my legs jump all over the bed :-( I am having a sleep study in November (had one 5 years ago - and all stages of my sleep then were normal). Depending on how long you have been on the 3 mgs.......taper slowly back to whatever you were on, and I hope it starts working for your anxiety again .....it did for me ! Since I only took the increased amount for 5 days, I just cut the extra 1/2 mg. and have done fine. Good luck !
