I'm sure there is another thread somewhere about this topic, but I don't have the time to look for it right now.

Anyway, I wanted to ask if anyone has had increased suicidal ideation or self injury after starting on Zoloft. I started at 50 mg at the end of October, and by mid November I overdosed on pills for the first time ever.

My regular therapists says I'm not on a high enough dose for my anxiety/ocpd/depression. I just talked to my doctor today to increase it to 100 mg.

My crisis therapist wonders if it could be side effects of the medication or if it's just coincidence because it's around the holiday season and stressors are piling up.

I don't have a pdoc. My obgyn is the one that prescribed the medication, and she knows about my SI. I was just curious. Thanks!

suicidal thoughts are common on start up, start up you near always get worse before better. EFFEXOR has the worse suicide rate on start up then any other med.

I took Zoloft for nine months and went through hell. The drug changed me. Suddenly I became impulsive and perpetually suicidal. I also did some SI, something I never ever did prior to taking it. The suicidal thoughts, SI and impulsiveness disappeared immediately after I discontinued it.

Increasing the dose may worsen your SI and suicidal ideation. It isn't a risk I would take. I would also be careful because these side effects can be misinterpreted as personality disorder.

You should try to get a psychiatrist. Can you get a referral from your OB/GYN?

Oh yes. They put me on Zoloft. I was on out for 2 days before i curled up in a ball on the couch and just wanted to die. It made me extremely suicidal. I wasn't suicidal before i took it.

I'm hoping that increasing the dose helps me because I can't deal with this much longer.

Been on it ~2 weeks (added to wellbutrin)... 1 week at 25mg and this past week or so at 50. And I can answer yes to your question (SI). I started wb to give me some motivation (300 sr/day) but it was a roller coaster. Now down to 150mg wb sr with the zoloft and barely feel like leaving the house.

2 weeks and your already adding Wellbutrin. don't you think its best to see if 1 med works before adding others, stick out start up effects not bail out and add new meds to one that has not had time to work.

Zoloft is a funny med, if you can get by the initial side effects during the first week or two, you may find it actually begins doing some good! By the 4th week you may even become a Zoloft fan. I hated it at first. It was a hard med for me to get use to the first 3 days. But now I love it. I too am also on Wellbutrin. Unfortunately I am on close watch by my doc who is worried the Zoloft may make me manic. It hasn't in 4 months! I started on 25 went to 50 then 100. The first 2 weeks really are the hardest.

I've been on it since end of October, so it's been 6 weeks this week. It was 4 weeks when I first od'ed. I just increased it too 100 this week so we'll see how it goes.

It will be the combo of wellbutrin and Zoloft you doctor is monitoring, ZOLOFT wont make you manic on its own . unless bipolar witch then maybe??? but I assume your not you don't mention a mood stabiliser

Thinking about dropping wb altogether. I have no libido and sort of anhedonia in general... I like to do activities and eat things I always have but they no longer provide me much pleasure. I just eat for nutrition and hunger but everything is... meh. If I smoked, I think I definitely would have quit on wb. I originally started it to try and give myself a motivational boost and get over some social anxiety over being long term unemployed, but it doesn't seem to help with that. But I definitely didn't think it would destroy my libido as it has.

I'm waiting to get an appt with a Pdoc at my T's office, because they know things are just getting worse even with increasing the Zoloft. I just want to stop it all together, but I'm trying to hang in there a bit longer.
