I am being treated for major depression w/ occasional psychotic features
![]() My being medication compliant for the past 7 years has helped tremendously, (I was not always that way ![]() I currently take: 600 mg Effexor XR, 200 mg. Provigil, 15 mg. Remeron at night and 200 mg. Clozaril at night. My Pdoc has recently added 75 mg. Wellbutrin to the mix. Should I be seeing some results soon??? It seems like a very small dose and I am really desperate for some relief...... ![]() Has anyone seen an improvement in their depression on such a dose? Thank you everyone! |

Hi,
I think that is normally a small dose, but given that it's being added to your other meds, I think it's wise to start small. When do you see your pdoc again? When I tried Wellbutrin it took a few weeks for me to see objective results. I'd say hang in there with it unless you get difficult side effects. Good luck, gg

I have bp 1, & take a bunch of stuff, but one winter a few years ago I sank into depression (I have a bit of SAD) which for me escalates into suicidal thinking really fast. I called the pdoc & was put on Wellbutrin. I can't remember the dose now, but I wasn't slowly building up the dose. It was just take this much & that's that. It works fairly fast for me, but I seem to be very sensitive to medications & have results in a matter of days instead of weeks.
I stayed on the Wellbutrin that winter & was able to get off it in the spring. I haven't had to take it since, but it worked great for me. (Also, for me, it had the opposite of the sexual side effects they warn you about on some AD's. I told a friend of mine who was on Zoloft that it really perked me up in that dept. & she was having trouble with that & tried Wellbutrin--she freaked out--had panic attacks & couldn't get off it fast enough to go back to her Zoloft).--Suzy |

Effexor and Provigil affect the same neurotransmitters as Wellbutrin, so it is wise to start low. You may not need much. Good luck!

There really is no proof effexor hits dopamine even at high levels, but the reps tell everyone it does. I agree to start low.
