I've always sweat more than other people, primarily in my armpits. It was especially bad in middle/high school, when my hormones were even crazier than usual due to endometriosis. I would sweat through a hoodie and visibly soak it within 20 minutes, inside my air conditioned school. I've always loved the summer and warm weather because I don't have to wear sleeves. The sweating got better for a little bit, but for the last few years, I've grown to completely be intolerant of heat. When I started treatment for all my MI, I also started on a medication that put me into short term menopause, meaning that I had hot flashes ALL the time. I would sit in the freezer at work for 30 minutes on my break and sweat. Since I stopped taking the med 2 years ago, I stopped being as hot all the time but I still sweat constantly. Sweat rolls down my face immediately when I step outside, I sweat when I'm in the air conditioning, I sweat from the back of my knees when I wear shorts and my legs get soaked (TMI) the boob sweat is unbearable and I'm only a small B(!!), I sweat all over my abdomen. It soaks through all of my clothes and shows up from the outside. Aside from that, as soon as I start feeling hot, I become completely useless. My brain stops working, I get dizzy and tired and slow and very irritable. Even when I KNOW I'm not dehydrated at all, and have plenty of electrolytes. I don't know what to do. Being stuck inside all the time makes me super anxious but I can't function feeling like this. I don't know which of my meds could be making me heat intolerant or sweat so much, if they're the cause. HELP!!
I take Trileptal, Saphris, Vyvanse & Adderall (but I sweat when I do NOT take them), Cymbalta, Buspar. Any ideas?

But I've also noticed that psych meds make me heat intolerant. |

I don't sweat much, but I'm pretty intolerant to heat (tends to trigger panic/anxiety, too). I seemed even more intolerant when I took Effexor for 2 months recently, so it definitely seems like it could be med-related (I'm now on Cymbalta and not noticing as much of an effect). Hormones can certainly play a role, too--when I was pregnant my heat intolerance was much worse and it was like I was having hot flashes. The first couple days of my period are like that, too.

Yes. It seems, for me at least, all AD meds cause increased sweating. Not matter what I'm on I sweat like a pig.

Hi Emory,
Yes....the medications are most likely causing excessive sweating. I've been on Efexxor and Wellbutrin before; and I would sweat just walking from the couch to the bathroom (during January! - so I know it wasn't too hot outside/inside, etc). Unfortunately there will be side effects. Kind of have to put of up with the lesser of the evils (imho). Sweat more vs. crying and/or sleeping all the time. I put up with the sweating. I bought a handkerchief to carry with me at all times, and washed it out constantly, using cold water. Otherwise, always have cold water to drink. The down side of that, is you will have to drink cold water all day long (because it doesn't last long to help cool you down from the inside out); and you'll make lots of trips to the bathroom. Perhaps your Doc would be able to recommend something else that isn't known to have sweating as a side effect? |

Glad to know I'm not the only one! I also sweat profusely, mostly from my face. I have to be careful at work as I've actually dropped a sweat tear on a patient before

this definitely happens to me also. for many people, like myself, who take lithium, the summer heat and sunlight can be dreadful on intense days. this has caused me to stay indoors more - not the best for my mental health, but i get so agitated when i sweat ridiculously and constantly gripe about the heat. bring water with you wherever you go, make sure you're going to the bathroom often, and sunscreen is a must if you're sensitive to the sunlight. good luck.

I am always hot too. I don't sweat through my clothes, but I wear short sleeves all winter. Here it is warm and humid and I hate it.

Anyone have tips on how to reduce the excess sweating? I'd sure love some advice if there is any to give.

I wish I had some tips, but all I can say is 'me, too'! I'm so intolerant to heat that I've had a number of times this summer when I felt like I was going to completely black out from feeling too warm. I have night sweats from Seroquel...I awaken soaked. Summer is not my favorite season by any means, but this summer...with our intense heat in California, the drought we're in, and all the wildfires, I can't even enjoy outdoors at all.
The only suggestion I have for the heat is a wet towel around your neck. And of course, drink lots of water. |
