Hey, I'm new here. I was on Effexor 150 mg in the mornings and trazadone 100 at night. I switched psychiatrists because I wasn't very comfortable with mine and the new one wants to cut back the effexor and to 75 and start me on Lexapro 10mg. My anxiety has gotten worse so she thinks this will help. Anyone else had a similar experience or on Lexapro?

Hi buffy, my doctor wanted to put me on Lexapro for anxiety. She said it had helped many of her patients with anxiety. Some anti-depressants are not as effective against anxiety. Another good one for anxiety is paxil. Lexapro does not have the weight gain problems associated with it that paxil does though. Good luck with Lexapro--hope it helps. (I did not end up taking Lexapro, as it was tier 3 in my insurance plan's formulary--just too expensive for me.)

Hi buffy,
I take Lexapro and it has helped with my feeling of constant underlying anxiety. I took 10mg for a couple months and didn't really feel any different. I increased to 20mg a couple weeks ago and now feel better. I don't think I've had any negative side effects except I had headaches for the first week or so of taking it.

So far my Pdoc has been giving me samples the whole time so I haven't had to pay a dime. Which is really nice because it also in tier 3 of my insurance plan. My pdoc said she'd wait to see if it worked before helping me fight my insurance.

I have taken Lexapro for about 2 years. My GYN prescribed it for anxiety. I am so much better with it. Only take 10 mg dly. I saw my GYN in January for 6 month check up he hinted about trying to stop med. I told him I was not quite ready yet. I don't want to go back to the constant state of worry that I was in. When I started lexapro it was on the third tier for insurance (highest co-pay) now it is in the second tier which helps. But honestly I have tried pozac and celexa, the lexapro worked best for me.

I take 20 mg of Lexapro as part of my p-docs "tuned" cocktail to treat my anxiety and chronic depression. I don't think it would do much for me all by itself, but in concert with the other Rxs, I'm seeing pretty good results. I DON'T want to stop taking it to see if it is having any true effect .... when something works, don't mess with it (some docs in my past have seemed to want to constantly twiddle to deal with a side effect or move from a brand-only to generic .... I'm fortunate to have reasonably good Rx coverage and don't get hammered for the Lex.)

I take Lexapro in combination with Remeron at night. I've been on that combination for at least a couple of years and it has proven to be very effective in tamping down my depression and OCD. The Remeron also helps me sleep as I tend to have a very busy brain at night. No side effects from either that I can recall.

Hey Buffy - Just wanted to add that my doc prescribed Lexapro last year when I asked him for something to help deal with my anxiety and anger issues. I had been dealing with things in my life to the extent where I had been averaging about 3 hours of interrupted sleep a night for a few years and that sort of caught up to me. Anyway, I started the Lexapro in May and it helped - a lot. I had no side-effects while on the medication. Even though I still had to be up and not get much sleep - I was not angry or anxious. Then, my reason for not getting much sleep or even relaxation ended about 3 weeks ago and I stopped the Lexapro - flat out. For a few days I had some intermittant mild dizziness but that was it. No real withdrawal side-effects.

I've only been on Lexapro about 9 days but for me it seems to be good. I haven't had any bad side effects like I did when I was back on Efexor (which I was on for over a year) My moods don't seem as extreme and my anxiety is lessened already. Good luck with it!
