My disorders:
-Major Depressive Disorder (depression)
-Severe Anxiety Disorder/panic Disorder
-Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
-Attention Deficit Disorder

My new Meds:
Pexeva 40 mg once a day-for Depression
Xanax 0.25 mg 4x a day-for anxiety/panic attacks
Valium 10 mg at bedtime-for difficulty sleeping
Ritalin 5 mg 3x a day-for ADD
Fish oil vitamin 1x a day-my mom says it can help with the depression

So, anyone have a somewhat professional opinion on my meds. I will tell you this...I am less depressed, no panic attacks, sleeping almost through the night, and can focus and get things done. I feel like a whole new person!!! I felt dead to the world for so long. The only thing I worry about now is how many meds I am taking. My doc is going to take me off the Valium soon...when the Ritalin kicks in and I can shut my brain off to sleep. What do you think? Is it ok what I am taking? Any comments are welcomed!

A question I have is why you are taking both Valium and Xanax. These are two members of the same family and it can be dangerous to be taking more than one.

I have ADD too but have never taken Ritalin specifically. There are meds for ADD that are extended release (like Adderall XR) that are taken usually once per day. If you are having trouble sleeping, you may want to consider asking your doc about something like this. Plus it's much easier to just take something once per day.

I wouldn't concern yourself the the number of meds. Everyone is different and has different requirements for what is going to work or not. I take over a dozen prescriptions and 5 are for psych reasons. The important thing is whether or not they are working for you which is sounds like they are. Glad you are feeling better!

Well I know I have taken both Xanax and Valium....Valium usually
at night to sleep. Valium has a longer half-life then Xanax.

Xanax being shorter acting and is presribed for panic attacks more so than valium. But I would still be leary of taking them
both because they are both Benzodiazepines.

I never heard of the one your taking for depression, is it fairly
new?

I've seen people on twice the amount of meds you are on.
I guess as long as there workig for you thats all that counts..!

Good Luck to you.....

Thank you for your reply speedy11. I go back to my pdoc on Monday and will ask why I am not on an extended release. I'm pretty sure she is going to stop the valium that day too.
Share the love peeps..it's a beautiful day down here is South Florida and I'm wishing everyone good health today!

IslandMedic, that's great your new meds are proving so helpful. When I hear stories like yours, I think, hmmm, maybe I should just go to a pdoc and see what meds can do for my symptoms. But I tend to be kind of meds-phobic. But I am happy for you. I think I could especially benefit from something for ADD. My list of "disorders" is very similar to yours (but I have beat the depression using other means).

For everyone's info--I too was curious about the Pexeva, so I googled it and it is the same as Paxil. Paxil is good not just as an AD but also for anxiety, so you may find with time that you don't need Pexeva, Xanax, and Valium for the same thing... (Hint: in case you haven't been warned, watch out for weight gain with Paxil. Guard against those carb urges....)

Sunrise...I googled Pexeva as well and realized it's not Paxil....but the generic form-Paroxetine. I used to be on the generic Paroxetine 40 mg but the manufacturers get away with only putting 70% medication in the pill. With Pexeva I get all 40 mg and it seems to be working way better.
Still gonna talk to the doc in 2 weeks about it though. Thanks =P

Hi Island,
Glad you are doing so well on your meds.

As you can see from the responses here, everyone has different experiences with meds, different concerns, etc. This is why it can be a little dangerous to ask non-medical professionals their opinion about the meds that have been prescribed for you by your medical professional.
I would recommend that you stick with what your pdoc suggests you take and discuss your questions and concerns with him or her.

I'm glad you're feeling so much better!
Best,
Okie

Thanks for all the replies guys...meds are working GREAT! So is the counseling, working out at the gym, eating healthier, spending some "me time", and having the support of my friends. It's the combination of everything put together that is getting me through one day at a time.
I haven't cut now since February 20th!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!
have a great day! Started on all of these new meds within the past 2 weeks
