If T isn't covered by the new insurance granite, it at least gives you an easy way of leaving her and going to a new T.

OK...do you know what company you will have? You're here in MA, so your health insurance has to be good, probably one of the top names like HP, BC, Tufs, AE...If a t takes insurance, usually it's all of the top names. I know they switch the mental health side up a lot, but regardless of who they put for MH, they HAVE to give you the provisions that the health services give. You probably fall under Parity, so you are going to be covered. I would just call t's with the info you know. Some of them won't schedule you for right away, and you can cancel if need be.

((( granite )))

Maybe this is a way for you to take some time to work through what you're feeling, what your needs are and how you're going to work towards getting them met. A time to reflect on what happened in your T relationship and figure out what could be done differently next time, the obstacles that are in the way, etc.

how does this place sound I'M scared

International Center for Psychological Trauma

Clinical Social Work/Therapist,LICSWverified by Psychology Today

The findings of modern neuroscience are coming together with the practices of ancient traditions in the service of people whose lives have been marked by experiences of extreme stress and loss. I identify my practice as part of this international effort to expand our understanding of the human mind, body, spirit and community. My work with clients is based on scientific evidence, guided by traditional wisdom, and dedicated to the art of moving together toward balance, realization and integration in the present moment.
I specialize in working with adolescents and adults who have experienced traumatic events, abuse, neglect or other kinds of profound loss. These people often have particular difficulty maintaining balance and a sense of well-being in everyday life. Common problems range from depression and anxiety to substance abuse, anger, physical health problems and dissociation.
People experiencing these kinds of complex posttraumatic difficulties often benefit from learning to use their minds and bodies as positive resources for balancing their lives. A primary goal in treatment is to develop skills that can be used in the present moment to connect to a sense of order, peace, spontaneity, and integration.

Looks good...is it a male or female? Emailing?

(((granite)))

I just read this about a T on the same site:
Quote:
I have been a therapist for many years. Therapy, I feel, begins with a relationship, and before someone leaves my office for the first time, I would like them to feel that they are understood and cared for. Very often, people feel overwhelmed in their marriage, their other relationships, or their life at work. I try to tune in to their current discomfort quickly and give them the idea that we can work together to improve their life.
The bolded part pisses me off. Like he's gonna MAKE ME THINK we have a relationship.

Granite - the only thing that would concern me is that it says he has only been in practice for 6 years. I would personally want someone who had been practicing a lot longer than.

granite, don't forget that you were going to look for someone who does expressive arts therapy, and I think someone who is more "out of the box", who has other ways to reach you. I think it's important for you to have a T who will let you email even if she doesn't email back, and whom you will feel safe enough to bring in your drawings. I know I'm describing my T, but you know I love my T! Most important, a T who will suggest the art stuff, or doing something else, not simply wait for you to ask. I KNOW there can be a good fit for you, and I very strongly feel that it should be someone open to reading your words, and exploring your artwork with you. Someone compassionate and down-to-Earth, who shows her caring but doesn't over whelm you.
Thanks for this!

You are assuming correct. Tufts is the main company, they have to accept beakon or stop accepting Tufts...no provider is going to stop accepting Tufts here in MA, they're too big.

You're actually going to do better because UBH is rough. That's who I have (under Hahvahd Pilgrim) and providers always say that they're the worst.

Granite - I also suggest trying out 3-4 before making a final decision. If you find 3-4 who look interesting, make appointments with all of them before deciding. I do not find any reason to think you have to commit to the first one you call.
Thanks for this!

yea....Rain is right, I forgot about the arts and creative stuff. But how do you search for that? They don't really list it on Psych Today.

When I started with my T, she had been practicing about that long, though she worked with a grief organization before that, for a number of years. I know skills and experience are important, but I think most important is how the T relates to you. Six years is a long time, to me. Just my opinion. Sometimes newer Ts are less set in their ways and are not burned out! Not that any T should practice if they're burned out, but I wouldn't eliminate a T solely based on their years of experience if everything else sounded good.
