not until recently did my therapist start wearing perfume, but i absolutely LOVE it. it's very subtle, but smells soooooooooo good. and today when we hugged goodbye, i must have gotten some on my shirt because now i keep smelling it!

just curious, do any of your therapists wear perfume? if so, do you like it or does it bother you?

I have allergies. If my t wore anything I would be a mess unless it was more musky than floral....

now if my xT (male) wore cologn like Fierce I wouldn't be able to concentrate.

I usually have the last appointment of the day. However, last week I had an earlier appointment. T was shifting around in his chair & I realized that he was wearing cologne. I think it's usually worn off by the time I get there. It did make me wonder if I looked different to him because my makeup was fresh and not worn off. lol

Oh, yes my T wears perfume. I never really noticed it before until one evening I was having a really huge breakdown and standing in the doorway, she hugged me. It smelled so good, like roses, baby powder, and fresh spring scent. I wish I had the nerve to ask her what it is because it is so calming!

Just a funny thought.....imagine an Axe commercial with the person wearing it being our therapist.

I don't think my T does. She talks about having a lot of allergies and being really sensitive to cigarette smoke, so I'd guess she doesn't wear perfume.

Sometimes, though, there is a client before me who wears a lot of cologne. I feel like I'm walking into the fog of it when I sit down on the couch.

No, mine doesn't. I guess it would be cologn because he's a guy. But I think that would be nice to get a hug and have some perfume smell for the day to remind you of T.

My T doesn't wear perfume...that I can tell anyways. I, however do wear perfume and it smells so good!! ( It's called "Angel"). I sometimes wonder if she can smell it on me..because I love the way it smells on others. I even go as far to wonder if the scent is left on the sofa that I sit on...memories of me? lol I am mindful not to wear too much because too much of a good thing can be yucky... never mind the cost factor.

My T must wear quite a subtle perfume.. I'm not conscious of it while I'm in the room, but like you say, after we've hugged goodbye I find it sometimes clings to my clothes for a while, and I tend to catch a whiff of it on my drive home

Sometimes I wish I knew which perfume she does wear, as I think it might be comforting when she's not around (kind of like when I used to borrow books from her and the pages would be infused with the subtle scent of the office - again, not that I'd typically consciously notice the smell while I was there, but when I opened the books the smell would be familiar - a pleasant mixture of incense and other smells, perhaps her perfume) ... but I worry that it might seem creepy to ask?!

I have had this exact same experience. My T hugs me at the end of every session, so it's happened a few times. One time I left triggered and upset, so the smell of her perfume drove me crazy. I wanted to forget about the session and the fact that I kept smelling it kept me from being able to do that! Most of the time it's comforting though. After one difficult session where I disclosed something huge, it was a reminder all day that I was safe now and not alone. I almost didn't wash my shirt after because it was so grounding. Instead, I admitted to her how helpful it was and instead of thinking it was weird, she offered to hug my blanket for me so it would smell like her perfume.

My T usually used a subtle after shave--didn't seem strong enough to be a cologne. But occasionally, he would be wearing a stonger--and wonderful--cologne, and between that and the serious suit, I always knew those were days he had off campus meetings. I think he deliberately avoided the cologne on only client days to not intrude.

My therapist doesn't wear perfume. I'm allergic. However, she does always smell like gentle bath soap, and, always fresh and clean just like a mom. I love it!

That is so lovely! My T is the same. She doesn't wear perfume (that i can tell), but she smells like a mum, it's really comforting to smell that when we hug.

I don't know that any t I've had wore cologne or perfume. I have never smelled a t. ha ha.

BUT...for a while prior client was a smoker, and the chair would smell like cigarettes. Nasty...it would make my eyes water. And I'd be nauseous. I often wondered how t could stand being in that little office with someone who smelled like that.

I don't know if the woman wears any or not. If so, I am never close enough to smell it. I did like a scent she had in the office itself from a candle which was sort of spicy. Now she is using some unfortunate floral kind. I think scents can be very powerful. It would freak me out to have the scent of a therapist on me however.

Mine doesn't wear perfume and the room doesn't really smell of anything but this thread has given me an idea ... I might start wearing a tiny hint of perfume when I go see T. Then I can smell it at home and maybe be reminded of being there. That would be nice.

This is actually exactly what I do! Everyone always comments on my perfumes - I have an intense collection (29 at the moment!) and apparently I always smell nice! I tend to have some for specific purposes, there is one I used to wear to T all the time (although now I wear it other places, I still vaguely associate it with T) but in the past almost year, I've switched to another 'T' perfume and I wear that exact same perfume to T every time now.

And I know she likes it, she bought the same one so now, I've taken to putting some on right before my T session, so I can smell it on myself and associate it with being safe in her office. I do not wear that perfume anywhere else (so I don't lose the association), but if I'm having a very very awful night, I'll spray it on my pillow before I go to sleep, or just spray a little so I can smell if it I'm feeling unsafe. Because my T's office is the safest place. And even though it's my perfume, it feels like it's hers. Besides the fact that it kind of is as well, since she bought it too when I told her what it was :S

So if I noticed another particular scent on my T, I think I would like it it wouldn't bother me! But I already have my scent that I know she liked a lot, enough to buy herself. And so it's my safety scent

That's really cool Silver Glitter! That's exactly why I'd like to do it - so I can think about that safe place that I'm in when I'm there. And I think that's an important point re making a strong association and not wearing it elsewhere. I have a few perfumes too so will choose one I think will be nice as a T perfume I like the idea of putting some on your pillow if you're going through a tough time.

It has taken me quite a while to think of my T's room as a safe place (esp because I hate the decor) but now that it is I can imagine that having something to take me back there, so to speak, will be very powerful.
