I know there's probably quite a few people on here that see their T two or even three times a week especially when going through really rough times.
But im wondering, is there anyone who is not in crisis mode who sees their T twice a week?

Im in a much better place emotionally than i was 3-7mos ago. At that time I only seen her once a week. In the past month I attended another trauma intensive and am feeling better. I still have a lot of work to do and it will be hard work but i dont feel in crisis anymore. When I was in crisis mode i dont think 2 sessions would have been beneficial because the session took so much energy out of me and i had a really hard time talking to her. there was also a lot of attachment issues there.

I can actually talk in sessions now and am secure in our relationship. The sessions feel productive now. im just wondering if its normal to ask for 2 a week sessions when you arent in crisis per say?

I saw Madame T twice a week for about a year. I suppose I was in some kind of crisis but I can't remember what.

I have been seeing my T twice a week for a few years. It is more helpful to me that way. I don't have to be in crisis to choose to see her twice a week.

It is like any other need, ask and see how it goes

If I could afford it, I'd be going twice a week as per the suggestion of my T. I only go twice a week if I can afford it or if I'm having a really hard time. I think twice a week is better because you spend less time on formalities and get more work done, and the relationship is stronger because you're together more.

I have been seeing my T three times a week for a few years now. Going once a week I couldn't keep myself from shutting down completely in between sessions, so I was in this vicious cycle...I would go to T numb, we'd work the whole session to get me to feel anything, I would just start to work on things, time would be out, I would leave and numb out, and we'd do it all again. I wasn't getting anywhere. So I increased my sessions, which for me, keeps me working on stuff. I know three times a week is a lot, but therapy is finally helping. It's what I need. So I agree, you don't have to be in crisis to go more than once a week. If your T is okay with it and you can do it and it's helpful, I say go for it.

I can understand the need for twice a week session when not in crisis. That 1 hour a week is fairly useless in my opinion at times. So if you can afford 2 or 3 times a week then go for it, i would! I have had 90 mins and 2 hour sessions before and they work much better for me, the pace is so much more relaxed.

Do those of you who go or have gone 2-3x/week - do you pay out of pocket? I'm assuming insurance wouldn't cover it, right? I think I'd probably do so much better with 2x/week....

I go twice a week, and it's turned out to work much better for me than once/week. (What I was experiencing with once/week seems similar to what EllieBear was.)

I pay out of pocket--my T doesn't take insurance--but when I file a claim my insurance reimburses me for 2 sessions just as it would for 1. But you have to have the right kind of insurance for that...mine currently provides unlimited psych visits. (It pays a percentage, though, for each visit...not the whole thing.)

I see two different ones each once a week. So I go twice a week, just not to the same one.

I sometimes ask for twice a week sessions when i'm working really deeply (like has just started again here recently and I think I'm going to ask tomorrow for an extra session next week!)

I pay out of pocket for one and insurance pays for the other except they will only cover 45min of EMDR instead of the 60-90min it needs to be leaving me with incomplete processing. I think I need to cut back on T#1 to pay for longer sessions with T#2.

I went twice a week for about 3 months whilst in crisis mode, it was good. Really helped build the relationship and keep my head above water. I think I didn't get as much done then as I would now because I was seriously f***ed up at the time so just keeping myself together was enough. Now that things are going much better I am working through more difficult stuff without feeling like I am falling apart. So once a week is fine. I'd like to go back to twice a week though, even though it's expensive, but I'm worried I'd be going because I'm attached to my T, rather than because I really need it. Not sure. It's complicated!

Oh and my insurance covers me for all sessions but only about 2/3 of the cost - the rest I have to pay out of pocket.

thank you everyone for your responses.

i have a $20 co-pay with unlimited sessions so its affordable on that front but I would be missing like 4-5hours in session and drive time from work...thats where my biggest problem comes in.

I went twice a week for about 3 months whilst in crisis mode, it was good. Really helped build the relationship and keep my head above water. I am finally feeling now and accepting and realizing the impact and affect my childhood has had on me. Im thawing out. So you would think I would be more in crisis mode but its the opposite. Like above, its still really hard stuff but im not falling apart and barely surviving in between appointments. Im also feeling the opposite because i'm not fighting the attachment with T anymore. That was HUGELY HARD for me. I think getting over the attachment hump CHANGED EVERYTHING for me. Im still attached and its still maternal but I feel secure in our relationship now. It was a long road getting there and involved many talks about it but i feel so much better now. I want to see her more so I can get more and more out of therapy!
Thanks for this!

My insurance covers multiple weekly sessions, but not multiple in the same day.

I find more than once a week puts me in a Therapy Brain...not good, as I have a life to live. That's just me though.

Interesting! I am hoping I can get to this point too. I'm really fighting the attachment/revealing it. Thanks for sharing
